I wonder if Meyer will reach out to Tim Tebow to fill some “position” with the Jags?
Duval, baby! Jags fans rejoice, this is the biggest “name” the franchise has hired since Coughlin
Hopefully Meyer still has it in him
I am gonna go out and say that no other Metro in FL is as Gator as Jax, so it will be interesting how he will be received by other Jag/Gator fans
I was just givin u shit my man
I think it’s a homerun hire. Even not being sure what’s what. Maybe not hr but better than any situation I can recall in Jacksonville since Brunel
I'm rooting for Coach Meyer. I hope he succeeds. I know this: he can't do worse than the coaches before him in Jacksonville. Jacksonville's problem over the years has been front office dysfunction and a complete inability to judge college talent. The draft is 100% evaluation of college talent and translating that to the pro level. Previous "evaluators" in Jax have been a complete failure. After all, this is the team that passed on Russell Wilson, Metcalf, Lamar Thomas, Deshaun Watson, etc. They took a punter in the third round instead of Russell Wilson. Meyer will be able to evaluate college talent better than anyone the Jags have had maybe in their entire history. Once he gets them, then he has to walk into that strange new world of coaching millionaires who think college coaches are high school cheerleaders. That, as many of you have pointed out, will be a struggle. But UM is smarter than the average bear and I think he understands these issues . It may actually make his job easier. No more BBQ's at his house after games. His wife doesn't need to make cookies.
The key to Meyer's teams is toughness. He made us tougher. I think he will make the Jags tougher.
Plus, in the end , a shitty team can't be too hard on a new coach bc they haven't earned that right. The Jags suck right now and have for a long time.
Like I said, if all else fails, he'll at least be as bad as his predecessors. What did their "NFL experience" do for them? All their NFL experience translated into the Jags replacing the Browns as the laughing stock of the NFL.
The Jags are by far the runt of the league. They had to do something outside the box, and they did, now they’re the talk of the league. I actually think Urban will do well there. He will pour himself into this and will be surrounded by a really good staff. Shelley has to happy to finally be back in F-L-A, she didn’t want to leave.
What about Orlando?
Wonder if Mullen gets a call about OC.
I'd wondered this as well, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.
Not even close to the infamous lateral move.
Could Mullen call Billy G?
So Urbs apparently just seriously padded his bank account.
That would be one hell of a pay cut
Hey Urbs, can you do Mullen a solid and leave Chris Ash to us?
Guys if these issues get to NS desk unaddressed by someone in charge of facilities then the heads of others have already are in the process of rolling. There is total control and there is micro managing. This behavior sounds more like something Jeremy Pruitt would pull.
Guys like Saban delegate appropriate responsibilities to competent people. That doesnt mean he probably wasn’t given a heads up and also a resolution timeline for potential scheduling conflicts.
He’s a good CEO, he will have Pretty Boy, and maybe he’s a franchise qbs. Can’t win in the league without a great qb. Some teams, Houston can’t even do that. If he is able to surround himself with elite X’s and O’s Guys that teach well, sure he can be successful.
If Lawrence turns out to be a bust, he’s done son. He won’t toil for a decade or more trying to find that guy.
Not too many Andy Reid types and Reid is ten times the X’s and O’s Guy that urbs is.
And Day may stay a lot longer.
I’m sure Nicky doesn’t actually do the work but he probably does stick a hand up his butt and control him like a puppet.
True, but if CDM has NFL aspirations he’s more likely to get a look at coordinator than HC.
