Where have u been? Hope all is well.
Hi! I hibernate in the Pub and Too Hot during the offseason.
Good to have you back.
On few occasions I saw him while coaching the Buckeyes, I saw someone yelled go gators to him and he always waved back to us gator fans.
He’s the only eligible coach/player that’s not on the ROH, right? I always thought it was timing and thought he deserved to be on it. I think some disagree because I can see why it’s hard to associate Urbs with the word “Honor.”
But it's easy to associate him with rings.
I say let him in the.ROH
Beahaahshahaha! “Less than 100%” in 2010? Did you watch any games in 2010?
The guy was impotent. Checked out. But still cashing checks of course
It’s very hard to argue with this
Let’s see them
Can't forget mullen.
Like a lot of fans, I felt jilted. Now that he’s not coaching for the suckeyes, I’m considerable less anti-Meyer.
I still think he has some honesty/trust issues but he did a great job while he was here and did put all he had into it.
I feel the same. Here is a list of the criteria; to be included, must meet ONE of these, be separated from UF five years and be in good standing with UF. It seems he dose meet the requirement.
Criteria to Merit Consideration
Heisman Trophy Winners (Spurrier, Wuerffel)
Former UF All-Americans Inducted into NFL Hall of Fame for Accomplishments as Players (Youngblood)
Former UF All-Americans Who Are NFL Career Category Leaders (E. Smith – rushing)
Collegiate Career Category Leaders
Coaches with UF National Championships (Spurrier)
Coaches with at least 3 UF SEC Championships (Spurrier)
Players with 2 or more consensus All-American honors (AP, Walter Camp, Sporting News, AFCA, FWAA, UPI) who have also been named National Offensive/Defensive Players of Year (AP, Walter Camp, Sporting News, ABC, AFCA, FWAA, UPI)
Here is a thought experiment...
If Dabo left Clemson for Bama... would Dabo be in the Clemson ROH (or whatever equivalent)?
Of course he would. And rightfully so.
So lets forget the health/marital/whatever for a second. Meyer left us for his boyhood dream (OSU) and if Dabo left Clemson for his (Bama?) then what is the difference.
2 titles are 2 titles. Flags fly forever.
Problem is that the word “Honor” is in the title.
The only criteria he doesn't meet is 3 sec titles, but I would still put him in.
Dude is in.........as soon as he actually hangs it up. We're not putting the Domers' or Trojan's current coach in the RoH. He doesn't have the 35 years of top-shelf Gator cred to overcome that look.
The culpability for 2010 and the subsequent 7 year is still real, but a pair of Nattys outweighs that over the long view. Mullen being successful here further bridges the divide.
The criteria state only one of the standards has to be met, and Urbs meets one of them (national championship) so I don't know why he would be permanently excluded.
"For a player or coach to merit consideration for induction into the Gators Football Ring of Honor, at least one of the following criteria must be met."
Yep and I don't fault those who advocate for him in the RoH. IMO a) he did not play at UF and b) was a six-year hired gun. I don't think of him as being a Gator in his heart. There's a good case for him, based on the NC criterion, so I respect that viewpoint. Just don't agree w it.
