I said suggestions, it would be completely out of the ordinary for an AD to demand assistant coaches stay. I'm also not sure I have ever even heard of the conversation of retaining staff as a sticking point in a coaching hire at this level.

Doesn’t the FACT that Chip even met w UCLA after we flew our AD and Prez to his home speak volumes?

Did Mac meet w other suitors after Foley went to his house?

IDC if SOS was one of the assistants. We aren't talking about making requests to a guy on the level of Mac or Zook.

This is probably just another item on the laundry list of things being miscommunicated in this process. Could be as easy as Florida admin saying “consider keeping these guys” Chip says he’ll think about it, then chip tells people in the process he doesn’t want to keep them and it filters back as a roadblock. Maybe we would push back for recruiting reasons but I doubt it.

With what man? We were unbelievably thin at LB and inexperienced in the secondary. A solid D-Line can only take you so far. Considering how long they were on the field every game, aside from 3 games they represented themselves pretty well. They also haven't quit, which many teams would have during a season like this.

    From that article...
I like Randy Shannon. He has been great in handling this whole thing. I think he's a good coach and would like to see him on the staff in the future. But there is no way I would expect an incoming coach to be asked to retain him as a part of the deal in coming here. Especially a big time coach who is in demand and as options. Snot Spunkling and crew would be eviscerated by Gatornation if that was the deal killer for landing Chip Kelly.

It is beyond insane for UF to miss out on a generational hire because it wants to keep certain assistants. If you can get a Kelly, Meyer, Saban, etc YOU GIVE THEM THE KEY TO THE CASTLE.

Frankly that’s how it should be with any coach. It’s their freaking program. But it’s rock solid true with elite coaches. You let them do their thing with 0, absolutely zero, input for administration.

If the hold up is UF not willing to give the keys to Kelly then that’s proof we aren’t committed. I’d recommend boycotting.

If this was Fooley I can see that. But Scooter seems like a bright guy. He knows you can’t go after a big fish without turning over the keys.

Well if you had gone with someone other than Mac you might have had a point. The reality being, no one else wanted Mac. That being said, I believe Meyer talked to ND after hearing our offer.

Chip: I still would like to talk to UCLA but I’m 90% Gator

Stricklin: Chip, we realize and respect you’d like to talk to UCLA however we can’t risk you turning us down publicly and our plan B feeling like he’s entering the job as 2nd fiddle

Sign and agree tonight or we have to move on

We didn't start the season unbelievably thin at LB. Our scheming hasn't been impressive at any point this year. And our tackling has been atrocious. It's easy to see how much better Geoff Collins was at putting our players in positions to succeed and scheming to stop the opposing offense than Shannon. Shannon relies on his talent to do the work for him, not his scheming. I don't like that in a DC.

The Shannon blurb sounds like bull, you don't fly the squad up to meet a guy you are going to force assistants on.

You don’t even suggest. Stricklin is not qualified to make suggestions on assistants. It’s not his job. If our UAA is meddling then I would certainly go to UCLA if I was Kelly. Nobody wants to be handcuffed

It's also the most simple scheme on defense going all the way back to Charlie S.

There’s no chance we are messing this up by demanding he keeps assistants off a 4 win team. Just zero chance.

Hope you're right. Would be a shame if we lose a good coach cuz he sees right away that front office bureaucrats would micromanage him.
