Evidently Smart “encouraged” UGA’s top 2021 recruiting targets to meet in Athens over the past weekend - during the recruiting dead period. Of course he claims the players organized the visits themselves. It would be interesting to see who picked up the tab for their food and lodging. Evidentially Orgeron got wind of the weekend’s activity and voiced his opinion. I guess this is just one of many perks for having an unlimited recruiting budget and exceeding it before the season starts.

They self reported minor violations a few months ago and nothing else happened regarding the NCAA. I guess Kirby thinks he's above all because NCAA doesn't do anything about it. CFB needs to do away with the NCAA. They don't enforce the rules anyway. Well, maybe they don't on a few selected teams (NC, Duke, Bama, UGA, LSU)

Do you notice how fast Kirby's portal transfers get cleared to play for UGA, and how UGA's exiting transfers have to wait an entire year for eligibility? How did their last QB get the NCAA okay to play before any of our players that came to Gainesville first happen? We are still waiting to hear from the NCAA on our transfers in...

UGA dropping off bags at the NCAA headquarters?

In UGA's case Vandergrief lives just down the road from the campus, I could easily see Vandergrief (my understanding was he was being identified as officially having them all come to Athens), hosting them all at his house, to skirt the rule.

Oklahoma apparently pulled the same stunt this past weekend too.

Kirby figured it out. While most schools either cheat out right in a huge way ( and not saying Georgia doesn't presently) or try not to at all, Kirby uses the Lane Kiffen technique of nickle and diming the rules. You get a bunch of minor infractions. You self-report. Nothing happens , and you still keep the spoils of your cheating efforts. The NCAA is a publicity hound too so it hates small claims court and thus goes into a coma on the little stuff.

I wondered same thing but I sorta thought the mays thing may have gotten nixed bec of it being in conference fwiw. I think shorter and pouncey are gonna get ok’d to play but I could be wrong. Personally I think this is a “nothing to see here” thing

Kirby doesn't think he's above it, he knows it. I mean obviously there is some point of gross violations that nobody can overcome, but that level is completely theoretical. He'll take minor violations all day long on the road to a top 5 class.

Word. Any time you can get the state to pass a law nicknamed "Kirby's Law" that keeps you from having to address Freedom of Information Act requests for 90 days (nearly a full football season) you know you've got free reign.

Last I remember that is still against the rules. You can't even buy your friend lunch if he is a recruit or a football player.

Except it only applies to certain schools. If UF did this we would be down 10 scholarships and have a 2 year bowl ban.

Unfortunately not. Think Cam Newton, his dad, money from Auburn, and a church to handle the transaction. Out there in front of everybody. Everybody. Zero consequences.

We may not be given as much rope as bluebloods like UGA, Bama, or OSU, but we'd still be given A LOT of rope if we wanted. We are not Ole Miss or Missou.
