I am have the luxury of having no influence and zero say. I also have no inside information. My somewhat “negative view” is formed from reading a non-scientific sample of articles and opinions other individuals, which has inherent bias. Everyone will have strengths and weaknesses. As I noted up-thread, I base my “negative view” on how much strength did he show in negative situations around Hamas protests, the graduate student strike, and handling of UM sports matters. Someone else, with a more conservative lean, might look at all of his actions as, on balance, positive. I have a more left lean on unions, protecting free speech on campus, and academics freedoms. Without a doubt he will come in Rah-Rah about UF sports. I do want to see how much he focuses on fund raising, recruiting high achieving research professors, his views on tenure, and pushing UF out to satellite campuses to expand outcomes. UF has the greatest gift from the taxpayers of below average tuition costs. He has to maneuver some prickly politicians.

Well I just saw he withdrew his name from the national letter opposing government intrusion in academia .... I want to hope that's because he's not representing the institution he signed it under anymore, but something tells me it ain't the reason

Possibly but probably more likely it was a condition of accepting the Florida position. I doubt he personally would do that so my hope is that he’ll simply play the game until Desantis is out of office in 1.5 years.
