UF ahead at halftime 7-6. We're dominating draw controls 12-2, but need to stop fouling so much and take better care of the ball. They have caused 5 turnovers and we've caused only 1. 9 turnovers for Florida, only 2 for Virginia. Take better care of the ball and cut back on the fouls and we can take this match.
Got Virginia fouling more, but we're still turning the ball over too much. Are also only 1-3 on free position shots. Tied 7-7 midway through the 3rd.
Gators pouring it on the last few minutes. Defense really shut down VA the 2nd half. Maryland beat James Madison 17-7, so we'll play them in the Elite 8. We beat them 13-12 in OT on their field back on February 24 for our first win of the year. Haven't lost since.
Won comfortably but didn't feel even that close. We had a number of unforced turnovers that we don't usually have. Seemed to struggle getting sped up with that extended zone. Quite a few shots going off the pipe. But gosh, when we figured it out, people were open in front of goal constantly. Some gorgeous scores. 9 assists vs. 3 for UVA. As a coach, it's just so demoralizing when you lose the draw all the time.
Sure, Maryland beat JMU 17-7 at home today. But we beat JMU 21-11, on the road...last week. Maryland was 3-5 at home this year, which blows my mind. 9-0 on the road. I just looked at a realtime RPI site. Before today's win, UF was #10, UVA #12, MD #7, JMU #18. Stony Brook and Loyola (8 and 9) both lost. The gap with MD might be small enough that we are essentially the same RPI.
Home game for Maryland, it's in College Park. Would be nuts if we won twice at College Park in one season. It used to be "maybe once a decade."
And we beat Maryland on their home field early in the season. I said in the beginning that I liked the Gators draw in this field. I think we have a decent chance to make it to the Final 4. This Gator team can play some defense and have really turned on the defense in the 2nd half in a lot of games this year.
I agree with @ocalaman ... I liked the UNC/UVA/MD draw. I just watched some of Northwestern plastering Denver. I don't want any part of that. Northwestern had two-man-down and still scored.
