I didn’t make it all the way to the end of that video. Was there a happy ending?

It looked like two dudes were about to make out from the thumbnail. That’s some asmr sounds I’d prefer not to hear in such detail.

    In my head--- UF
I could read all of John Wooden’s books but it wont make me him.

replicating the process has proven very elusive for everyone except for Kirby Smart.

Why is that? Why aren’t reporters asking that question specifically

You don’t know what you’re talking about. Pretty sure Mark Stoops is shorter than these guys but either way, Terry Bowden should be #1.

Every great coach had a beginning before he made his name. Urban Meyer is one of them. Bowling Green, Utah and then the Gators where he became a recognized great coach. That is until he became Urban Liar. We don't need a big name (has been) coach .We need a guy who is working to become a recognized super coach and his ending job is here at Florida. This has to be a destination job not a transitory one.Billy Napier fits that mold.

Kirby and Jimbo are doing pretty well implementing what they've learned, but Saban is unique. I've seen enough to know there isn't another Saban.

Note that the 2 I mention are at schools with money that have the desire to compete with Bama. Has UF reached that point? We don't know yet.

Napier may also be able to have success with copying the system but at an SEC school? Only time will tell. If he gets the chance. If he doesn't land at UF or LSU this year, then either they're not ready to do what he wants and BN is still waiting for a school that will. And it just might be Bama.

Im not going to try to hunt down some random article I’ve read during my OCD on the Gators coaching search, sorry.

But the general premise was Napier was offered some SEC jobs and Saban basically told him to say no (including to Auburn) and to wait for Florida.

If Napier turns down UF and turning down Auburn/USCe then there really is only one job left for him to care about

Coaching under someone doesn’t mean you’ll try to replicate what they do. Shark wasn’t even remotely close to Saban in approach. If Foley thought he was getting a Saban discipline then he got hoodwinked

You can see by the way Napier manages his program that he has a lot of Saban in him. The emphasis on recruiting and the size of the support staff show that. That attention to detail is the key Saban trait that you want. Shark and his go to a retail gym to workout mentality is the polar oppo of that

But they are different. Napier is an offensive guy (mainly QB) and Saban is defensive (DB).

Throw a long interception = same as a punt, but better field position, and you don't yield 2 points, when those same 2 points put the opponent within a field goal, which by dint of luck, Appy state missed.

...and it doesn't look queer as a Three dollar bill.

I would suggest that had Saban not landed at Bama he wouldn't have the success he has had. The bag men are the best in the business...

I don't think he would have that ability but at a few other places, USCw is one.

Presumably the reason Napier would take the job is the school he’s signing up for wants to support his vision so I’d expect if we get him that we know the financial and Human Resources needed to succeed.

I have this scale in the back of my head - it's 10,000 points (details, characteristics) a person needs to be a perfect (or as perfect as a human can be) college football coach.

Saban is close to 10,000. Not perfect of course, but the GOAT, at least modern era.
The majority of coaches who remain employed at schools eternally unranked hover around 5,000.
A lot of guys at usually ranked schools are around 7,500, including Mullen, Franklin, Cristobal, Stoops and Kiffin - some are better at some things like recruiting or staffing, game management, etc. than others. but it balances out.
Swinney, Riley, Kirby and just a few others consistently making the playoffs are pushing 8,500.

Napier isn't on my scale yet.

I don't think any of the other candidates mentioned for UF are much, if any, higher on the scale than Mullen, unless you think Bob Stoops is a candidate. None are Stoops or SOS or Meyer level and that is really what fans want. Napier hype is the hope that he could be. It's pretty obvious none of the others are.
