UF coach Mullen proves he can recruit
    Mike Bianchi Commentary Orlando Sentinel
With National Signing Day now in the books, Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen is proof positive why you can’t believe everything you hear about a coach’s reputation.
Remember the knock on Mullen for the longest time — the one that told us that he was a good coach but a bad recruiter?

In fact, the whispers for years have been that the reason Florida hired Jim McElwain instead of Mullen back in 2014 was because Mullen couldn’t recruit at a high enough level and because he was arrogant, aloof and rubbed people the wrong way.
It turns out the aloof, arrogant, rub-people-the-wrong-way guy was McElwain and not Mullen. Go figure.

In the year he’s been on the job at UF, Dan Mullen has proven that his critics couldn’t have been more wrong.

Mullen has been the opposite of alouf and arrogant. He isn’t full of ‘coach speak’ and ego - instead he is sincere and putting his heart and soul into rebuilding this program. What a home run hire by Stricklin.

DM is the right guy for the job. He can recruit but most of al ha can adjust on the run during games and he's innovative.

Great offensive mind and play caller. Very confident in himself and team. Loving husband, family man and father. Most importantly he has had many years of head coaching experience in the SEC previously in addition to his OC expertise. Not his first rodeo. Offers stability. When a coach has worked with all his assistant coaches previously and they want to work for him again, that is telling. Family oriented program. Imagine when we have a level playing field and similar facilities to the top programs

Those last 2 head coaches were really... ugh. Coach Mullen has turned everything around.

If what CDM did his first year is what we can expect from him every year... then I hope he is here forever.

The man loves football just like we do. He knows how to coach them up and how to make adjustments during the games.

We are going to be Champions! Wait... we already are! Thanks Dan.

I suspect Mullen has matured since he was at UF with Meyer, but I also suspect that a lot of the criticism of him was completely unfounded, based on what we've seen this past year. He comes across as a very sincere and likeable guy.

Spot on article. I watched Dan's press conference yesterday. Gators have their man. Future looks bright, recruiting is up, facilities upgrades are in the works, FSU and Miami are both down. Not to mention we have a good QB with experience coming back...……..fun times are ahead at UF.

The best part is that I got to listen to Bianchi on the radio this morning bashing FSU and Willlllllie Taggart's QB "plan", instead of the Gators for a change.

Don't know about that. I recall reading the Tebow book when he and his family were on his OV to UF and his brother was chatting with Mullen and DM told him that we didn't "need" Tim since he could win with any QB or something like that. Sounds pretty arrogant to me.

Ha! Sounds like something SOS could have said.
I think DM and TT have repaired their relationship a bit......

I wonder if something was lost in translation along the way. Doesn't quite sound like the way to recruit a 5* QB on his OV.

His Family approach to recruiting seems to yield a good crop of kids that are easy to cheer for. That doesn't matter to some, but I like it
