But I admit there is an alternative viewpoint which I will mention here. Good scouting stays ahead of the curve and picks up gems initially undervalued by the math nerds. The army may be getting this one right.
It’s a no brainer to take the top qb in the nation but I’ve always thought that the bottom of a class is where the great classes are made. That’s takes infinitely more work than just taking the obvious.

with our record it is amazing we are in the in the top 100 but top 10, wow. Funny when we were falling some people were claiming the stars/numbers meant nothing and now since we are in the top 10, these same people are crowing.
I love our transfer portal class. A few weeks ago i said we’d have 15-16 with a bunch being starters (think I said 6/7). Great job by Billy. Right now with Warner and Taylor I count 13. But even taking them away we have 11 and I see at least 3-5 more guys being added in the spring as we will have attrition. Namely one more OL and a WR. As far as 6-7 being starters I think we are there with: Slackman BCD Pup Turner Douglas Dike That’s 6 and we could see these guys as starters: Manuel Bridges Great haul when over half your portal pickups will see starter time and maybe more with Bridges and Manuel. Dont sleep on Dike. Not Ricky but 35-40 balls possible and can stretch defenses taking heat away from #3 especially running jet sweeps. Hes got the wheels on deep verticals but I’m hoping we see him with 20-25 touches on Jet sweeps
And, 8 of the 15 classes ranked ahead of us signed more players. Once Billy hits the 14-15 mark this is a top 8 portal class. This is very very important today’s world to have balance with a good HS recruiting class and good portal class as the portal will bring more immediate success. This in turn is going to translate to a better high school recruiting class because kids want to play for winners.
