Aren't there rumors of major violations at UT? Might be worth saving millions and just taking their medicine with Steele running things through a potential probation period.

Something tells me UT went fishing for any kind of recruiting violations they could find that would allow them to fire Pruitt with cause and not pay the buyout.

From inside the nuclear waste dump that is Knoxville:

    - Pruitt fired for cause....meaning Vols don't have to pay a buyout.

    - Fulmer is accepting retirement. Whether forced or not is up for debate.

    - Peyton Manning is said to have been given the reigns to lead a coach search.

    - Whew lads......

How odd though given they just fired a guy for recruiting violations and the world knows Freeze was knee deep. But that's how it is how it goes sometimes.

Peyton's ole buddy John Elway would be a great pick for head coach

Wow. Imagine where they'd be if they had hired Mike Leach three years ago instead of Pruitt.

I would not be surprised but there might already be NCAA involvement and Tennessee is trying to mitigate. Hopefully it is severe enough that a very good coach would avoid the gig because recruiting and developing a program that loses ships and bowl games for a few seasons is too much to deal with. No doubt though, Tennessee's probably happy they have cause however it was discovered.

Fulmer retiring adds another dimension to the speculation. Perhaps they decided he's seen his best days and, it happened on his watch- the lack of institutional control.

    Knoxville is HOT right now.

Some speculating Doug Marrone has been given an interview or getting one super soon.

The NCAA is already involved. The dollies could be in some serious doo doo.

UT cannot hire Freeze under these circumstances.

More than likely, Utoothless and Pruett come to some settlement re: the buyout.

I think you are correct. Freeze is a no-go because they are firing for recruiting violations, supposedly. It's probably pretty deep and the NCAA has already outlined. Fulmer "retiring" is probably a clue that Tennessee is trying to tell the NCAA they admit there were problems and had to clean house. Time will tell.

Meanwhile, Willie Taggart read about the situation, dialed up his bank app, checked his account status, and thought "thank you fsu".

although Pruitt learned a thing or two about illegal recruiting from the places he’s worked at and coaches he worked for, he didn’t pay enough attention when it came to hiding it and paying off NCAA investigators

Fulmer wants Peyton as part of his casket bearers..so Peyton can let him down one last time.
