A ‘striking’ trend: After Texas banned abortion, more women nearly bled to death during miscarriage | CNN

Nice job “pro lifers”. You have caused women who already had to suffer through a miscarriage now have to bleed out in the process and get a transfusion or even die. Well done. Jesus would be proud.

    American Taliban strike again.

Before states banned abortion, one of the gravest outcomes of early miscarriage could easily be avoided: Doctors could offer a dilation and curettage procedure, which quickly empties the uterus and allows it to close, protecting against a life-threatening hemorrhage. But because the procedures, known as D&Cs, are also used to end pregnancies, they have gotten tangled up in state legislation that restricts abortion. Reports now abound of doctors hesitating to provide them and women who are bleeding heavily being discharged from emergency rooms without care, only to return in such dire condition that they need blood transfusions to survive. As ProPublica reported last year, one woman died of hemorrhage after 10 hours in a Houston hospital that didn’t perform the procedure.

After Texas made performing abortions a felony in August 2022, ProPublica found, the number of blood transfusions during emergency room visits for first-trimester miscarriage shot up by 54%. The number of emergency room visits for early miscarriage also rose, by 25%, compared with the three years before the COVID-19 pandemic — a sign that women who didn’t receive D&Cs initially may be returning to hospitals in worse condition, more than a dozen experts told ProPublica.

The data mirrors a sharp rise in cases of sepsis — a life-threatening reaction to infection — ProPublica previously identified during second-trimester miscarriage in Texas.

For them it seems like a feature not a bug, unfortunately. Will they look at the data and make a policy change so doctors dont fear going to prison? Dont hold your breath.

Maybe Republicans will make it a felony for any organization to report on health care outcomes for women of child bearing potential. Problem solved, dying women don't exist.

We are a Christian nation. Letting full grown adult women in medical distress die is what the good lord wants.

Do you think the good lord would prefer those same women to kill their babies?

This is the response. You keep circling around and reminding them that the conclusion to their argument, their proposed solution to this outrage is to reinstitute a national holocaust against the innocent.

Nope. That is not acceptable. It is not virtuous. It is not honorable or commendable. It is the taking of human life with malice aforethought. It is cold blooded murder. NEVER AGAIN.

Absolute bullshit. These women were having miscarriages, not engaging in a holocaust, but couldn't get the medical treatment they needed because Jesus worshippers equate lifesaving abortions to holocausts ...

So you will sacrifice - live - living women, in order to *save* embryos and fetuses that have no cognitive ability or functioning at all.

In reality - that’s not even what we are talking about here. This is about not letting women abort fetuses using a particular procedure that are going to miscarry.

They are NOT babies. Tell me what % of abortions are done before 12 weeks.

Only applies to fetuses in the womb. Doesn't apply to pregnant women or babies after birth.

So you would prefer that both the mother and the fetus die in those cases in which a continued pregnancy threatens the life of the woman and there is virtually no chance that the fetus will survive.

Texas law has hospitals and doctors so intimidated that they will let a woman die, or suffer, rather than intervene with necessary, life-saving procedures. This isn't about abortions, it's about miscarriages. As if miscarriages in themselves aren't heartbreaking enough, these women have to fear for their lives as the doctors consult the lawyers. Shameless.

Life is certainly harder for women in Texas than it has to be.

This is meant to be in support of your point and not a correction, but a D&C is incredibly common after a miscarriage. This isn't some specialized back alley procedure. It's basic medical care.

How many women have died in the state of Texas because they could not get an abortion? Do you have a statistic?
