While we're introducing new moderators, who the heck is "unclenunzio?" I don't recall ever seeing him post on Too Hot, and suddenly it seems like he's in charge.
Yeah - I can see how people posting stuff that’s untrue could be a problem. Threats of violence too. But trusting untrained volunteer moderators to protect you from liability if that is the main concern seems risky at best. Would be better just to shut it down imo if liability is the primary concern.
It could degenerate into something like 8chan. No way SG would or should let that occur. This board is one of the best political boards I’ve seen. Most boards just don’t have the involvement. THFSG has a good number of posters from both sides and active engagement. It’s free and the ads aren’t obnoxious. mods do a great job.
Aren’t they essentially adding mods because they’re upset, among other things, about people complaining at and about current mods? Moderators have historically been very fair and diligent here - not taking a shot just seems like a contradiction. We weren’t even remotely close to 8chan until recently either.
I doubt they consider it in too much detail. I have no idea, but would guess they added them for more help for current mods.
It basically did devolve into 8chan-like before a bunch of right wingers went to a different board due to not wanting just basic moderation principles. My understanding is they had to take that board private, so who knows what crazy/violent/racist fantasies those people talk about now. I myself experienced message board “stalking” from one of them. It was quite weird.
For the record it wasn’t gifs. They are lame but I don’t care. It isn’t his ideology. We are actually fairly close on some issues. It is his constant “libbies this, libbies that” and similar behavior. At one point he was just following my posts and slapping dislikes on my posts because I think I hurt his feelings. That when combined with the fact that he never really said anything substantive. Whatever. I’m done bitching about it. This board is kind of following the current political environment of appointing “unexpected” people to positions of authority and also the overall trend to MAGA sycophancy. I shouldn’t be surprised.
We have a bigger group of maga mods now. (Oklahoma, bill, and now Bluke). But they’ve done a good job of stopping the open insults of posters in a fair manner.
I used to post over there. It was always bad but really devolved when the crazies here combined with the crazies there. After Trump lost some of them were screaming for “WAR!!!”. It was so bad even the Trump adoring board owner was telling people to pipe down. Also, my recollection was the board owners brother participated in 1/6 - the board owner was saying that with pride - prior to the event. After things went crazy and they started arresting people I suspect the board owner freaked out - combine all the above and he decided to take it private. I had been banned at that point. In 2022 apparently the admin posted this in the forum it had gotten so bad they threatened to shut it down “Things appear to be getting out of hand emotionally from a handful of our members. I realize it's a difficult time for our country, and the differences between our fellow countrymen have never been more pronounced. Saying that, constant personal attacks on each other in here just can't be tolerated. They are useless anyway, serving as nothing more than to hijack threads and start pissing contests. At the end of the day, XXXXXXXXXX is a sports site. If people can't behave themselves in here, I will take away their access to this section. If things remain out of control, l'll simply permanently shutter the PF and won't lose a wink of sleep. The people I'm talking about know who they are. This is a final warning. If you can't control yourselves, your access to the PF will be taken away. If you cannot stand another poster, put them on ignore - that's what the feature is for. We have some very smart posters who don't feel they can post anymore in the PF due to the juvenile idiocy that seems to be running rampant right now, and that's a big loss.”
I wish my friend @unclenunzio and the new moderators success in their efforts to administer the forum. A moderator must be ethical and have integrity. Be just and impartial, but most of all, hold yourselves to a higher standard than a standard forum member and you will succeed.
I would prefer to have two of you as moderators, and no MAGA right-wing extremists. The MAGA moderators often cannot control their need to worship and defend the Orange One while insulting every other point of view.
Speaking of great posters who need to hang around more often… It’s good to see you around these parts. Personally, I’m hoping to attract more like yourself. Hope you’re doing well.
I guess this also part of it also. If a moderator engages in trolling behavior or inflammatory posts, I can’t block it and to some degree you have to be more delicate in responding lest you be accused of attacking a mod. Starting out Gator Bill was absolutely awful - spamming the board with inflammatory troll like threads - it almost seemed intentional. He was frequently engaging in behaviors that were later banned. To his credit he has gotten better - I still think he is crazy but his posting and threads are much less troll like.
