You could say the same of every other year after Meyer but we lost a ton of those games we “should” have won. Saying you should win and actually winning are two completely different things. Mullen did it and the bottom line is no matter how hard you twist it, is that he took over a 4 win bowl-less team he couldn’t even get those extra practices with, having guys coming off suspension etc., with the mess he took over and won 10 games. There are only a handful of coaches who could have done that and one of those isn’t they dr. Pepper lookalike in Athens. He took over a preseason top 10 team loaded with talent and did squat his first year.

I disagree, taking a 4 win team to 10 wins and a NY6 bowl is incredible, no one saw that coming.

Gotta give credit where its due.

Not sure we were really expected to beat LSU but I was at that game and it was pretty amazing.

Sorry, but on my parents grave, i called a 10 win season prior to the 2018 season. Even convinced my best buddy of it. Talent was NEVER the issue, the schedule was home game friendly, and we had an experienced team. Nothing happened that was a shock to me (outside of being spanked by Missouri). Team wasn't without talent in 2017, we were just in a state of disarray before the season started. 4 out of the last 5 seasons were 10 wins, it was obvious the 2017 was an outlier

And you cant compare Kirby and Mullen as Mullen had been a HC for 9 years prior to coming to UF and Kirby was a 1st year HC who was starting a true freshmen QB. Way different scenarios

    Respectfully disagree.

LSU was ranked #5 and favored by 2.5 pts when they came to the Swamp that year. They lost.

But let's not quibble about the word "amazing". Dan inherited a 4 win team with a dumpster fire offense that was ranked #104 in scoring offense and could only muster 22.1 points per game in the prior season - and led by a head case for a QB. And before we blame the suspensions for that year, our offense only scored 23.9 points per game the prior year. But who's bragging?

Dan improved our scoring offense to #37 in scoring offense in 2018 without running his scheme or having his players. Remember the Michigan games in 2017 and 2018? They curb stomped us in 2017 after beating the grunt out of us. In 2018 we returned the favor. Oh, and I'd argue that Dan still hasn't been able to install his preferred offense.

Last point ... For those who wish to refer to McElwain's SEC-E titles, how many of those teams were ranked in the top 10 at the end of the year? None. And most are convinced that we may not have even been top 20.

So was 2018 "amazing"? I'd argue that Mullen did a f'ing great job. Even better in 2019. No disrespect intended - I just disagree with your opinion on this.

Right lol. What's weird is i FELT the Mizzou let down after the UGA game in 201i but didnt see THAT happening lol. Kentucky had been playing us close every year since 2014 (sans 2016) so them getting us didnt shock me. Last two years i felt we didn't have the DEPTH to beat UGA.

I want A&M though if the schedule gets revised...i wanna spank them and im nervous about that Ole Miss game this year too. VERY nervous

If Mac was coach, how many games we should have won would have been losses? I guess we would have been 6-5.

Mullen did do a great job. But he had some good pieces to work with, not simply the talent of a 4 win team.
I just would like to see him able to work with a team full of great pieces.

I know what you mean but just based off the past few seasons, they play us tough so it was just a matter of time.

What impressed me in 2018 is that he had to develop and get to "buy in" quickly a team that had been demoralized in order to beat a team that he had already developed in MSU. Then he also beat 3 out of 4 teams that had a considerably higher amount of 4 and 5 star players than Florida had (Michigan 44/35; LSU 50/35; and FSU 43/35). The Kentucky loss did not surprise me as much as the Missouri loss.

The Mizzou loss would have the team packing it in and finishing out 1-3 in those other years. Especially after benching FF but then losing Trask 3 days later after that embarrassing loss at home.

The entire 'buy in' transition to open the season was impressive, but keeping that team on track and finishing with the momentum it did was a masterful coaching feat. There are a bunch of moving parts to this rebuild and CDM has made it look much easier than anyone had the right to expect.

There certainly will be a reckoning for CDM and recruiting down the road. At the moment, it's not exactly a problem and certainly a bit further down the list of criteria for evaluating progress of the program after the first two seasons.

I sure am glad stoops didn’t go back to FSU. He’s definitely a good coach. Maybe when Norvell gets fired we will have to deal with stoops coming back
