My take is he completely lost himself in guilt anger after being chastised for tweeting the amount. I personally cannot fathom putting this all on the internet and making myself a story when things are going this well. Just remarkable lack of self awareness and narcissism.

What really does NOT help in recruiting, especially portal players, is when people mention amounts of money it might take to land one particular player or another. That is not only unhelpful and tacky, it makes football unnecessarily more expensive.

I see rando posters/people tossing stupid amounts of cash to get so-and-so all the time in several different sports forums. But if you're a booster and you do it? Man that's very naive.

Passionate boosters can be a blessing and a curse. You have more money but you also are hamstrung by narcissistic egomaniacs that think because they give money they should have power.

They should have a say, but they should not be have full ability to do and say whatever they want.

Auburn knows this better tha any school. They are crippled by ridiculous booster's.

Nice details thanks for posting. Similar happened on 247 sports with Hal. Criticism from posters a few years ago had him run to the hills and cancel his subscription and join On3.

He loved his dinners with Napier at Spurriers (loved the access his donor status got him with Napier and was a huge reason Napier lasted longer than probably earned).

If that last statement is actually true then hopefully he stays away from the program. Part of the problem even though he donated money.

If Sumrall gets this thing rolling, others will step-up with money.

He would replace Jaime Rodgers who went back to Baker, (McClenny).

That’s what happened when you hired 4 bad coaches in a row. Let’s hope the 5th one works out.

Good article. This part was disturbing considering our recent OL coaches:

"I didn't know how long it was going to take," Trautwein said. "I always tried to reach out and never really got a call back. I kind of just knew it wasn't my time. I had other opportunities at some really good places … and decided I just couldn't leave Penn State. I told guys that in recruiting, 'honestly, the only place I would go to is Florida.'

Well, at Louisiana the OL coaches had developed some good OL, so there was no way Napier was going after a less established Trauwein, and then afterward once Trautwein had established himself at Penn State, Napier was too entrenched to admit defeat. I have to think the best coaching might have happened from the Louisiana OL coach who died.

Also, Napier had his man in Sale as I imagine it. I would like to know what Trautwein thought of Napier/Sale's thing. I would like to hear Sale talk about it.

What I’m saying is that typically in these situations, an Athletic Director apologizing for whatever real or imagined slight will suffice to get the booster back on board.

I’ve seen this happen in the past with a Bull Gator that felt unimportant because of one game day incident. He wanted an apology from Foley but none came. He took his Bull money and went home never to return for those multiple sets of tickets around the stadium and the box he got every season. Bad customer service on Foley’s part.

It’s insane not to just acknowledge, apologize, and attempt to rectify the situation even if it isn’t directly your fault. So many people just want to feel like you actually care.
