Trump's large union crowd at Shell was given the option of not showing up — and not getting paid

Forcing someone to either support a political a corporate chosen political candidate or use or use precious paid time off days is garbage.
No other way to spin it.

So Shell employees get paid for showing up for a rally, while NYC jail guards get paid for not showing up for a hanging.

Seems like a lot of spin and bending backwards to back Trump.

Bottom line - they were paid to go to a trump political rally.

Military and Commander in Chief. Why did you choose this to make a comparison with a private company and Trump? There is no comparison..not even close.

    Exactly.
I did hate the dog and pony shows though. Not even the actual event, but the days of extra stuff just to get ready.

Me too. Whenever VIP's were scheduled on base suddenly normal wasnt good enough and time was wasted shining up everything as if we were hiding reality.

I'm not sure what the big deal is that CNN considers this a story. Presidents have been doing this kind of thing since the beginning of TV. They go somewhere to announce some policy objective with a backdrop of employees or other people that benefit. If this was the last administration CNN would just be talking about the energy policy even though there were probably people in the crowd that didnt like Obama but showed up to get paid. As far as the pay goes its governed by the union contract. The pary they miss out on is overtime pay and per diems if they are not there, not base pay. To me this seems like more overblown outrage porn.

True shouldn’t be a big story. But remember it’s Trump who is constantly bragging about his crowd size. From one of the first items his made a issue out of, (inauguration crowd) to just recently when out of the blue he bragged about it while visiting shooting victims.

Maybe I'm mistaken but what makes it a story is that attendance was, in effect, mandated by management. When a politician and especially the POTUS speaks at workplace it's usually not necessary to require that the employees attend. It was also supposed to be an official visit by the president. Although not surprising considering Trump's history his appearance devolved into another MAGA rally. Normally, the president doesn't use an official visit to attack his political opponents.

This may be my last post on Too Hot. But it fits the purpose so I will respond. I pay to be a premium member of the site. But Too Hot has lost its purpose and for me created a scenario where I believe I will leave Gator Country. I found this site in my Hume Hall dorm room as a freshman in 98 before Hume was town down to become the Honors Dorm. Great memories. But the I am done with the moderators on this forum deleting and editing posts that do not deserve it. This is a flipping political forum. And I do not report stuff to waste their time because it is hard enough to have a discussion and provide context with people you do not know in person. So I handle these situations fairly when they happen and let people decide whether they agree with me or whom I may be in disagreement with. If I am not going to be allowed to stand up for my position. Then it will be time to move on after two decades sadly.

@duchen I sent a PM to another poster this morning I typically disagree with politically. As do we. Like them. I respect you. I have never felt you are one to whine and cry to moderators which leads to censoring of context. It has gotten to a point that my premium dollars likely are not going to support this site anymore. I will miss discussions with you and others I agree and disagree with. But as of this moment I do not feel GC is willing to address my concerns.

I renew Sept 3 and still not sure what I will do. I hate missing my insider football friends. But Too Hot has really lost its purpose and I do not want to support a site that refuses to address the issues of what is a smaller part but a bigger part in the off season.

You are one that makes Too Hot great from my experience. Even with our disagreements. But there are a few that must inundate moderators to the point it is unbearable now...

We will see. Gonna continue to sleep on it. But plan to send help@gatorcountry.com an email to not automatically renew my subscription this week on Sept 3rd. May come back may not. But I am done with the censoring which takes away context of the discussion.

I hope you don't go q. I disagree with you on pretty much everything, and you are definitely wrong about the source of the problem regarding entitlements and about humans, generally, but you're a good egg and one of my fav here (sometimes infuriatingly so :) ). I hope you'll reconsider come Sep 3.

Sometimes it helps to take a lengthy break from too hot/social media. In my decade on here, I've taken a number of months-long breaks. I also no longer argue politics on facebook and only randomly post on twitter, but that's usually passing research or news along. Powering down helps regain perspective and plus arguing on a forum whether deliberately or not can provoke emotional responses can be mentally draining in negative ways that need not be.

I did not think I would respond again. But you are one of the best that I disagree with. Truly appreciate our interactions!!!

Thank for the kind words, q!

I wrote it to trigger a response, albeit a positive one for you :)

    Seriously, I hope you reconsider.

The difference there is that the CIC is your boss ultimately. When my company makes me sit and listen to our ceo, that makes sense too, and I have had some crappy ones.
But imagine being an African American or immigrant put in the position these employees were by their employer. Don’t get a paycheck, or look like you support someone you despise and who will probably spend half his speech disparaging your community.
I am not in favor of too many new laws, but coercion like this should be illegal. And that goes both ways, unions do this on the left too.

Believe it or night, the moderators have bigger problems with the recruiting board. Sometimes I read the stuff over there and laugh hysterically at how angry people get at each other. Over some kid going to another school. Stick around. The season is starting. The moderators here err on the side of caution. Because it is a political forum, it seems like one side is being picked on. But, they are tough on both sides. I have been censored. You probably don’t notice when someone else is censored. I get why you were upset yesterday. No one likes their depth of their faith to be questioned. And, really, nobody here is qualified to make that judgment. I have reported to moderators. We have had posters show up once in a while who are blatant neo Nazis or bigots. Those I have reported. You may have not noticed them, because they were banned quickly. I have had posts censored. We all have. Sometimes it is best to step away from Too Hot. I have been doing that lately. And I find the Den to be fun. A forum like this is not supposed to be a source of stress. When it gets that way, remember that this is place is great for the sports, which is why we all joined. I joined here because a poster reporter that his mom died and there was an outpouring from the members. This is a good place.

Btw: some folks left last summer, but came back. There are a few that did not who I really respect and miss their insight. Don’t let Too Hot be the reason for staying here or leaving.
