President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is exploring deportation exemptions for illegal migrants working on farms or in the hospitality industry who could be swept up in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. Trump said workers who have spent years in the U.S. labor force, particularly in the agriculture and hospitality industries, may be eligible for a new type of work permit that would allow them to remain in the country legally, pay taxes and continue working but without receiving citizenship. The proposed plan, which has not yet been formally announced, would create a system by which farmers and other employers take legal responsibility for longtime undocumented workers. Trump 'working on' deportation exemptions for illegal farm and hospitality workers Still waiting on Trump to start going after the employers
The question is and I'm not predicting the answer, who will have more influence on Trump his large donors from the agricultural and hospitality industries or Stephen Miller and Tom Homan both of whom think that every illegal should be deported as soon as possible.
So Trump's not going to deport everyone like he said, and will just do some performative theater at getting a few hundred criminals out. Who would have guessed? What's next, a plan for a huge amount of these workers to stay? Where's that guy who says "They're all illegal, they have to go!"? He changed his mind on this because Daddy Trump said to?
Illegals are a net benefit. That is why we have never done (& probably never will) anything substantially about getting rid of them. Sure you can amplify the costs of illegals which Trump has done while ignoring the benefits until you start destroying the benefits. hence, I knew Trump’s promise was BS. It is what economists call irrational cheap talk (there is also rational cheap talk).
