He's insane. "President Trump has pushed top aides to investigate whether the U.S. government can purchase the giant, ice-smothered island of Greenland, two people with direct knowledge of the directive said. The presidential request has bewildered aides, some of whom continue to believe it isn’t serious, but Trump has mentioned it for weeks. The two people with knowledge of the presidential demand spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to reveal such White House planning." https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...econd-is-trumps-latest-white-house-directive/
Expansion of freedom and liberty is always a great thing. Start the go fund me now baby! #greenlandforfreedomandlibertyNOW.
Now let’s say this is for real, and the President thinks this is a good idea for whatever reason. Should he take it to the Senate for advice and consent, or should he just, like, call it an “agreement” vice a “treaty” and do whatever he wants?
The funny thing is Greenland has increased value because of global warming, which Trump claims is a giant hoax. What a fool.
Seward’s Folly didn’t turn out too bad. I met a pilot one time who said the irony of Greenland is that it is covered with ice and the irony of Iceland is that it is green.
I'd say.... Go for Kamachaka! Kamachaka! That way, the Bering Strait is secured and we can keep the Ruskies outta Alaska! Whaddaya say?!!
He better visit this website if he thinks Greenland is as big as it looks on maps. It looks as big as the US but it really is about Alaska size. Compare Countries With This Simple Tool
Not having read the article, I think the idea sounds great. No real colonization, and new territory. I always thought James Polk should have stuck with 54 40 or bust, but he was just posturing. Greenland is, like Antarctica, probably just an archipelago, but so what? I like the idea. I think Mike Pompeo does too, since he acknowledges that melting ice caps represent better trade routes through the arctic. It's strange that he's part of an administration that doesn't believe in anthropogenic climate change, but he definitely believes that climate change will be beneficial for trade. Meh. Greenland is the place many climate scientists visit for a variety of reasons. We could get that resulting money, rather than Denmark.
Could be our Australia. Send all our criminals there. So much potential. What’s the prison system cost a year? $182 billion. Mass Incarceration Costs $182 Billion Every Year
I thought this idea sounded like another one of his insane side thoughts that he says out loud and everyone has to pretend it makes sense before ultimately denying he ever said it. However, thinking more about it, it might not be that crazy. As dang points out, it’s a very important location for global warming. And it could become a strategic spot once the artic melts. Also could represent a decent tourist destination for Americans, ala Alaska. Maybe?
