Protesters arrested after fire, vandalism break out during Seattle rally

 

Thousands gathered around the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building in downtown Seattle on Wednesday evening for a rally demanding an end to ICE immigration raids ordered by the Trump administration.

SPD told KIRO Newsradio that officers had rocks, fireworks, and pieces of cement thrown at them since their arrival to disperse the rally. Officers had to use force to disperse the crowd.

Yes..show me the part about severe vandalism please. Any pictures you can find? What constitutes severe vandalism to the building? Spray painting a slogan? God forbid. It is a pattern with your ilk to over dramatize to justify excess response..like AEA and fentanyl. Anything to warrant more authoritative actions. Are you going to cheer when Trump attempts to enact martial law and use the military to enforce it? When will you realize just how badly you are being lied to? I’m so sick of these protests. Protests certainly have an important place in political discourse but as soon as you turn violent and/or break the law you are playing right into trumps hands. He wants excuses to deploy the guard, he wants examples in order to demonize liberals. Idiots. Making it harder for everyone serious to get anything done.

I’ve worked with activists before. Controlling their political rage can be challenging at times - but it’s when you can channel that energy into meaningful actions and communications to local elected officials where you get the most done. All you have to do is get people outside so you can demonstrate how many people support your position. But once you start throwing shit it’s all down the toilet.

it would be way better to be totally pacifist and trick the police into attacking first. But as soon as you light a car on fire no one believes you’re the victim. Stupid.

You never see this lecture when people are the streets opposing the Chinese government, Iranian government, Russian government, etc. Some of you people need to face reality, and get more comfortable with people breaking & violating certain laws if you want a democracy in this country. That is the reality. Not everyone has to do it themselves, and its responsible that people that have power keep an arms length from people engaging in civil and uncivil disobedience, but you are doing the work of Trump and the fascists IMO if you are clutching pearls over some burning trash cans or self-driving cars. I've never seen an American get upset at people in Hong Kong throwing bottles at Chinese cops in riot gear. There are not many examples if any of completely pacifist resistance restoring or building a democracy. The conservatives are completely comfortable with their J6 types, take a lesson from that. Or remember that all the civil rights heroes were law breakers themselves.

Maybe you ought to open up a biz in LA and watch it get burned down, looted and then just maybe you’ll not be so okay with it.

 

Maybe you should get your family/friends kidnapped by masked government agents at their place of work. You'd probably want to riot if that happened.

 

People who think the cops are going to beat them or shoot "non-lethal" rounds at them for peacefully protesting. I would advise anyone to wear protective gear of some sort (glasses, bike helmet, etc) to a protest that will have a heavy police presence where there might be trouble. People have been blinded and injured by rubber bullets / ricochets. Just common sense. You dont know what other people might do, if violent counter protestors will show up or what will set off the cops. Protect yourself.
