Trump to deploy National Guard in response to Los Angeles immigration protests

It wouldn't surprise if Trump tries to invoke the Insurrection Act considering he seriously considered it during his first term. It would be straight out of the playbook of an authoritarian leader who is trying to undermine the norms of a constitutional republic.

I think Trump increased the number from his initial 2,000 up to 4,000 and let's not forget the Marines, initially 700 if I recall but very likely to increase.

 

The last time there was an event in the US remotely resembling an insurrection was on January 6, 2001 and Trump ended up pardoning the insurgents including those who violently attacked the police. Although Trump has referred to events in LA as an insurrection in his tweets it doesn't remotely come close to resembling an actual insurrection.

 

Those people in LA are trying to overthrow the US govt? Please provide details on your baseless claim.

Is it really an insurrection when less than 0.001% of the cities brown populace is protesting in an area around an internment camp, which they have no come close to damaging? Yet when 0.001% of the DC population equivalent of white people stormed the capital building, attempted to seize the Speaker of the House and Vice President and actually did succeeded in causing damage to the building this was not only NOT an insurrection, but "an expression of free speech"? What's happening in LA doesn't come close to meeting the statutory definition. Trying to prevent Congress from certifying the results of a presidential election comes much closer.

We're starting to get to the heart of the matter which is that Trump supporters are tired of hearing that Jan 6th was an insurrection.

They're so desperate to have an example to throw at the other side that they're ready to claim anything, no matter how dissimilar, is an insurrection so that they claim it's both sides. That includes Trump purposefully escalating the situation to try and make that a reality. That's what this is really about.

 

Could that be why all of the fake videos have been posted? A desire to have a reality that matches your desired perceptions?
