The disturbances following the Rodney King verdict were magnitudes greater than the current situation in Los Angeles and the mobilization of the National Guard back then was done with the concurrence of the governor of California as well as Los Angeles city officials. You're comparing the proverbial apples and oranges.
    FYI:
When the riots including multiple shootouts had ended, 63 people had been killed,[8] 2,383 had been injured, more than 12,000 had been arrested, and estimates of property damage were over $1 billion, making it the most destructive period of local unrest in US history.

Glad they arrested him. That what should happen to people who spit on police officers.

Something wrong with the Mexican flag? I don't get it. Is there some hypothetical person that is going to be offended by a Mexican flag that is otherwise sympathetic to immigrants or protestors in general? Or are you speaking for yourself?

Nothing wrong with the Mexican flag although waving the flag at a demonstration against forced deportation to other countries including Mexico isn't exactly a positive optic. It lends to the rationale that if potential deportees have a loyalty to Mexico maybe deportation to that country isn't really a terrible punishment.

Its not a 'positive optic' for who exactly? Is that what you think? Or are you just inventing hypothetical xenophobes who are enraged by the sight of a foreign flag but otherwise would support people protesting deportations? This also sort of begs the question of whether protests are meant to gain sympathy rather than show defiance of the government. Seems pretty obvious if you want to defy the government, you would burn the US flag or display the flag of a more stable & humane nation (only kinda joking there), like Mexico. "I hate fascism but then I saw a Mexican Flag" is like something that NYT pitchbot account would tweet.

I mean people repost statements slanted or inaccurate often with a picture that isn't relevant. They may not call it a meme or think they are posting one but whenever one reposts a one statement "gotcha" they should probably do even a couple seconds of digging to see what is and isn't accurate.

Here's another one from a different subject that makes the rounds every so often. Meme not meme is just semantics. The inaccuracy and context used makes it a meme.

Photos from 40-year-old movies, a pallet of bricks in Malaysia ... All geared to get both sides excited and angry.

Fake Images and Conspiracy Theories Swirl Around L.A. Protests
Disinformation spreading on social media platforms has stoked an already tense situation.

^ All of this. Trumpers like being lied to.

Trump doesn't care about L.A. or want the protests to end. He enjoys them because he gets to foment hate and violence for political gain.

His supporters don't really care either. They just want whatever Trump tells them to want. Similarly, they get angry accordingly; whenever Donald J. Trump wants it.

Anyone in power who wants a peaceful end to these protests would simply enact, and communicate, plans to address illegal immigration through legislation and going after employers.

That's not what Trump wants though, of course - it would end his tough-guy cos-play. And his supporters' opportunity for hero worship.

Memes have been a propaganda tool for years. It’s all about dumbing down talking points to the absolute lowest common denominator.

To be clear, ANY type of media can spread false information. Whether that’s movies, radio, streaming video, podcasts, whatever. Political memes are just the lowest/dumbest form that require zero effort.

Speaking only for myself I have no problem with the Mexican flag. Although it probably doesn't make any difference to the way that they feel, the flag does reinforce the feelings of the pro-Trump, pro-deportation crowd who want those "Mexicans" out of the country. I put "Mexican" in quotes because they tend to categorize all Latino immigrants as Mexican regardless of their actual country of origin. In case anyone may have forgotten, these Fox News infotainment stars did it during Trump's first term in reference to three Central American countries:

Protesters or agitators: Who is driving chaos at L.A. immigration protests?

LA police chief agrees they need the national guard as things are out of control.
Pics of burning cars people throwing concrete off of buildings interstate over passes and overall destruction… not memes not hearsay.. actual reports and pics.
I’ve was tasked with a job. They did their job and people who disagree with the policy interrupted and interfered with agents doing their job. Not a peaceful protest. Interferrrence. This result in escalation. Police took over 2 hours to arrive. Mayor has sided with the rioters and protestors over govt officials. Buildings, cars and property and innocent people have been threatened and injured.
You don’t have to take a side here. You can hate Donald Trump AND disagree with the protests/riots.

This is why I don't really understand why people bring it up. They are like "I don't have a problem with it" ... its always some imaginary person that might, some vague concern with "optics." Seems to me either people are not being honest about how they feel themselves ... or they are projecting something onto imaginary goobers they feel superior to or more tolerant/enlightened than. In other words, classic lib brain. Say what you will about conservatives, but they arent like "shouldnt have the confederate flag at Jan 6, its bad optics for the anti-racists that otherwise would be supporting stealing an election."

That's because he speaks intelligently, which may make it hard to follow for some.

That would be the guy that had a secret account for all of his White Nationalist thoughts, right? Do you think he spoke intelligently when he talked about how he thought Hitler had some decent points about Jewish people?

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but is it even really a 'meme' if you just put some text or quote to a picture? I always though of a meme as something where the visual was sort of "understood" and you could change the text to suit whatever you want. Like everyone knows the "boyfriend" meme where he's checking out the other girl, or countless others, and you are using it to make a point about politics or even some obscure interest.

Well he was intelligent enough to hide his racist thoughts by using an alt, that's smarter than most racists. Low bar, I know.
