It was obviously a slip although if Biden made a similar slip he would have been incessantly ridiculed with MAGA and the right-wing media citing the slip as an example of Biden's cognitive decline. On the other hand Putin probably approved since both Ukraine and Alaska were part of the Czarist Russian Empire and Vlad has indicated on more than one occasion his goal is to restore the Russian Empire.
Long term, history has proven time and again that caving to people like Putin only means more killing later. It’s unfathomable to me that people can’t grasp that, he will see this as capitulation, and in three years when his army is reconstituted and his finances back in order it will be another attack because he will assume he will get another “negotiated agreement”. He has done it his entire time in power, he has attacked, brokered deals and then broken over a dozen agreements only to attack somewhere again. You are basically giving up parts of Ukraine now to give up more later, and it moves him closer to Europe’s doorstep and emboldens him. Unless the goal is to continue to capitulate small pieces until he finally dies, this doesn’t help. And again, Trump has zero authority to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine, so what are we even doing?

Putin gets people to say “Oh stop the killing”, which is Putin bombing kids and old people in their homes. How to stop it? Ukraine giving up their country. Giving him even an acre of land he didn’t have before gives him something he didn’t have before. That’s all he cares about and all he will see. We could bleed him dry and run him into the ground without a single US life lost. Ukrainians are happy to fight for their land, and to date it’s cost us 3 or 4 percent of last years budget to potentially take down a geopolitical foe, blow up the Brics axis, help protect Europe, and send a message to every wannabe dictator around the world. And yeah, it sends a message to China on Taiwan that the west will stand with democracies, which could save us trillions in trade and weaponry long term. It’s one of the best deals we will ever have, we should be throwing weapons at Ukraine until they say they can’t take anymore and telling Putin to go to hell. Instead he’s getting a red carpet today. if Trump stands up to him today I will be the first one to breathe a sigh of relief. But then this whole exercise was just dumb.
