shouldn't you be offering the deal before the national guard showed up?

Maybe it's just you. A lot of your fellow Washingtonians say things are getting better. I'm sure a lot them aren't afraid to take the subway at night.

As for the 90s, I spent a fair amount of time in DC in the 90s. Crime was way worse then. It didn't prevent me from going out at night to places like the 9:30 club. Somehow I survived without the national guard being called in.

That is a poll about the safety of riding the Metro.

The poll you want is the one from May of this year that shows 50% of DC residents still think crime is extremely or very serious and 41% think is is moderately serious. So over 90% of DC still thinks crime is a serious issue. Which is roughly the same as the numbers in '23.

That is great that you had fun in DC in the 90's. But that doesn't really matter to the young professionals that DC is still trying to attract to live in the district these days. There is a huge amount of them that live just across the Potomac in Arlington and Alexandria that live there because it is safer and the short commute is worth it since they do not have to put up with the craziness of the DC City Councils policies.

BTW, I think Mayor Bowser has gotten a lot more pragmatic in the last couple years. I think the threat of almost losing the Capitals to Alexandria was a real wake up call for her. The fact she did not know the Metro lines was a terrible look. I think if you gave her truth serum, she would say the biggest thing that has helped DC in the last year is Trump's return to work policy. That is something she was begging the Biden Admin to do since not having the federal work force was really killing business in certain parts of DC.

I was more worried about not getting the edit in on the post where I ruled out paying for alcohol. Not sure I wanted to be on the hook for a bottle or two of the $6850 DRC. I would have risked it if that were the offer.

The videos of cops pepper spraying people for filming are disturbing.

That’s called assault, and I wonder where those “cops” are getting trained?

Did you read your link? It doesn't help your argument. It shows that people in DC think crime isn't as bad now as it was in 2023 and 2024. That is supported by the data as well.

The stats on fear of crime is interesting as that is a separate animal from actual crime numbers. They might track and they might not. The old if it bleeds it leads mantra and social media certainly have a huge influence on fear or crime.

Haven’t been to DC in decades. I think 3 people were killed two blocks from where we were staying. Criminal on criminal.

I did. Where I am I wrong on the numbers I cited where DC residents think crime is a serious issue? Remember we are talking about the overall numbers that show concern of crime as a serious issue between moderate to extremely.

A small one. Lived in Orlando for a few years and Dems started letting parts of it turn to being a mess. Always wanting to coddle the crooks.

Wait. Where have I said that I don't think DC residents think crime is a serious issue? All I've said is that crime in 2025 isn't as bad as it was in 2023. The data, and the poll you linked, back that up. Do you disagree?

What the hell are you even talking about lol. Orlando PD has never coddled crooks and has operated with impunity for as long as anyone can remember. The Demmings are frickin cops! All the democratic sheriffs are republicans who changed their part affiliation to win elections, like John Mina.

Right. Orlando had a state. attorney DeSantis had to relieve of duty for failing to follow the law I believe trying to coddle criminals. Orlando had to be forced by DeSantis I think to cooperate with ICE. I think Orlando area has more far left crazed leftists than any place in FL except maybe Broward County. Sheriff Grady Judd is always rounding up child molesters from Disney world staff. Technically Kissimmi I guess but basically Orlando area.

The things you are talking about happened recently not when you lived there…so what parts of Orlando ‘have gone to shit?’

I have heard much of it now except of course the gated communities and other wealthier areas the people that fund these Democrat politicians live in.
