(NEXSTAR) – Campaigning for office a year ago, standing in front of a table loaded up with bags of flour, cartons of eggs and gallons of milk, President Donald Trump told voters, “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One.”

Unfortunately for him – and money-strapped Americans – it hasn’t worked out that way.

Nexstar employees around the country tracked a selection of grocery items over the past six months to see if prices would rise, fall or stay the same after Trump took office in January. Our observations, as well as federal data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), show grocery prices overall have remained stubbornly high and even increased slightly.

Now that we know that grocery prices did not come down I am hoping that one of the MAGA members can tell us why Trump lied?

Everyone knows prices are the big Grocery hoax. The Sunday ads for groceries are fake news media’s way of concealing the great work of the administration.

When Trump leaves office he'll have added about 10-12 trillion to the debt, given himself a massive tax cut, maybe reduced our # of illegal immigrants by about 1 million, cut services for millions ofAmericans..... and that is IT.

Inflation will be back up. Trade policy a shambles. Ukraine and mideast a disaster.

Trumpies won't accept that they got played. Felt good to hate and fake "win" for a few years.

We know all these things now. Seen it before.

I don't know if it's fair to call a campaign promise a lie because every candidate makes promises that don't come true. At least it's not a typical lie. It's a prediction, a sales jobs.
It was a ridiculous promise of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone people believed it. I've seen interviews with Trump supporters convinced he would stop the Ukraine war just by telling both sides to stop.
But his real lies have come when he claims that all prices have come down. Remember gas at $2? But that's always been his MO. Just lie.
The fact is that some have come down, but most haven't.

He also said/says gas prices are way down. He was right there, I paid $2,35 at the pump today.... Ohhh wait, that was the Kroger pump and the discount added to it from the astronomical grocery bills I have had to pay the past few times..

He made promises he knew or should have known that he couldn't keep and his tariffs have yet to really bite. Also keep in mind that he was elected based on largely on his promise to lower prices.

Over-promising is his thing. It's not enough for him to say, "I'll bring down grocery prices," he has to pump it up with qualifiers like "immediately," and "Day One." Everything has to be "the biggest and best in the history of the world." This bombastic rhetoric is clownish, but it might be forgiven if his hyperbolic promises were ever reflected in the results.

He was wrong? I wish you would tell him that because he's still saying that prices are down. Again, why is he lying to us?

Funny that you need to translate for him. What part of “Prices of Gasoline, Energy, Groceries, and practically everything else, are DOWN!!!" says some prices are down and some aren't?

    Right here
I feel the same way when a news story turns out to be untrue. The difference is that 1) the news organization admits it made a mistake, and 2) you might use the once instance to write off the organization forever.

your forgiveness and understanding toward the left is well-noted.

But, please answer. When he said gas prices were down to $2 a gallon, was that a lie?
