I guess the everyone here illegally needs to go thing wasn't working out well.

"Our farmers are being hurt badly," Trump said during an event in the White House East Room when asked about his position. "You know, they have very good workers. They've worked for them for 20 years. They're not citizens, but they've turned out to be, you know, great."

Trump said he plans to sign an executive order to address the situation, adding that it will take a "common sense" approach. "We can't take farmers, take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have, maybe not," Trump said.

Trump says too many migrant farmers, hotel workers are being deported

So doesn’t include wife beating gang members who engage in human trafficking?

I don't think the Donald's little buddy Stephen Miller will be pleased. Miller apparently wants to deport as many illegals as possible and farmworkers and hotel housekeeping staff were among the easily identifiable low hanging fruit. My guess is that undocumented immigrants working at slaughterhouses and meatpacking plants will probably also be off the table.

Oh man, I hadn't even seen the part where he actually said some people without the proper documentation will be permitted to stay.

Funny report about that tonight. Bukele is apparently working with MS-13. Good times.

This will only encourage the construction and restaurant owners to come forth to lobby for exemptions for their own critically necessary migrant workers. Before you know it, the labor pool will be exactly what it should be, before Trump got the deportation mania.

I mean it’s obvious what needs to happen. We need guest worker visas. Sort of like the maximalist tariffs, it’s economically impossible and/or economic suicide to deport that much of the ag and service labor force.

The question is do the sheep flip flop because of Trump? My guess is no. A lot of those immigration hardliners predate Trump. It probably goes more like the vaccine nonsense, where his own suppporters boo the vaccine, so then Trump plays hard to the anti-vaxxers. I suspect he’ll get that type of response to any attempt at amnesty, then go back to his anti immigrant rhetoric.

Oh, is Trump going after the Russian mob in the US now?

Did Putin pull his Russian mob money laundering contract or something?

I think he means he plans to get rid of all the illegals EXCEPT those that work on farms, because white people are too lazy for those jobs!

Bubba and Lulu wouldn't last an hour in the Central Valley picking lettuce, but they would provide great fertilizer, as would Trump without his diaper.

It's all a dog and pony show to begin with. Trump, as usual, is showing his hand. If they really cared about getting rid of migrants/illegal immigrants then they would also be heavily fining businesses and jailing the CEO's that hire them. No, no, they would never get rid of all their cheap slave labor and pay American's higher wages for the same jobs.

This is about keeping their cheap workers scared and in line so they don't speak up about shitty working conditions or ask for more money. Same as all the union busting, removing collective bargaining, neutering NRLB and OSHA. The working class grabbed a bit too much power during Covid, time to put them all back in there place to drive up profits for the 1%.

I think Bill will be fine. He tends to change his opinion to match whatever Trump says. We should expect a post using spaghetti logic any moment now

Imagine had Trump and Republicans supported the bipartisan immigration bill instead of undermining it, there would have been more resources for border security, expedited asylum processes, increased detention capacity, more border and immigration personnel, and increased worker visas for businesses to grow.

Instead we have the Trump daily shit show, with marines in LA, no habeas corpus, masked ICE agents raiding asylum hearings, handcuffing American citizens, foreign prisons, and farmers burying rotting crops in fields. Is this really what Republicans wanted?
