A citizen with a different opinion on how to better improve the country isn't evil. Isn't an enemy if the state. And if they have a different heritage and skin color, telling them to return where they came from is racist.

I don't agree with everything AOC stands for and as a person who identifies as Jewish, I have an inherent distrust of Tlaib. But they have a right to their opinion and voices, and there's like many more things I agree with them than oppose.

Same goes for many Republicans. I don't agree with a lot of the policies, but they have the right to their opinion and voice. Even a racist like Trump. It sickens me that a person like him is President. Even worse that so many support him. But Trump supporters are my neighbors, and I'm their neighbor. It's better to try and listen to each other and work together, rather than attempt to thrive as a house divided. And make no mistake, Trump wants to divide, and he wants nothing to do with people who don't think and look like him other than to denigrate them.

I don't know. Trump won by 80,000 votes in 3 states. Those same 3 states went overwhelmingly blue in 2018 governors' races. By over a million votes.

Libs are just setting up for the 2020 elections, you can see it coming a mile away. Trump's racist, therefor anyone who likes him, supports him or votes for him of course is also racist.

Why? The Republican President is not a main stream candidate? Nothing is mainstream about his xenophobic or race baiting comments. It is Trump’s extremism that will be his end. This election isn’t going to be about mainstream policy proposals by a Democrat. It is about the extremism of this President.

By making statements like the subject of this thread, Trump makes the case against himself. “Libs” did not invent the statement. Trump tweeted it and then doubled down. Presumably, you agree with the statement since you conclude that it is “libs” who are incorrectly interpreting the statement.

Trump is racist. I don't know if Trump supporters are racist, but they support a racist.

While I agree it could play out this way, if the Dems nominate a candidate who is easily framed as extreme on economic ideology Trump could win anyway. The devil you know vs the devil you don't.

The Dems need a candidate that will get their base to the polls and not alienate independents/moderates. HRC couldn't do that (way below Obama's numbers), and it cost her the election.

When a person says and does racist things enough times, it must be true.

Trump is showing himself for who he is.

And who he has been since the earliest public recognition of his racism, when he ordered his property managers to systemically exclude people of color from housing in the NYC area in the 70s and 80s. Long after it was illegal to do so.

And in employment. And in calling for the death sentence of the Central Park Five... after they had been exonerated by DNA evidence.

Fast forward to his campaign and administration and there has been a constant stream of racist/bigoted statements and "dog whistle" moments denigrating people of color and calling for violence... even to the point to saying he would pay the legal bills of people committing the violence.

His encouragement of racists has been followed by increases in activity of racist groups in social media and in attacks on people of color.

White supremacists are the most active terrorist group in the country. You can thank Trump for that.

    Making America "Great Again".

Can't get out of my mind....how come the president only became a "racist" after he entered politics.

Before that - he was never called a racist - nor did he ever behave as one.

    What changed?

He was a known racist before running for office:

The first quotation from Donald Trump ever to appear in The New York Timescame on October 16, 1973. Trump was responding to charges filed by the Justice Department alleging racial bias at his family’s real-estate company. “They are absolutely ridiculous,” Trump said of the charges. “We have never discriminated, and we never would.”

In the years since then, Trump has assembled a long record of comment on issues involving African Americans as well as Mexicans, Hispanics more broadly, Native Americans, Muslims, Jews, immigrants, women, and people with disabilities. His statements have been reflected in his behavior—from public acts (placing ads calling for the execution of five young black and Latino men accused of rape, who were later shown to be innocent) to private preferences (“When Donald and Ivana came to the casino, the bosses would order all the black people off the floor,” a former employee of Trump’s Castle, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, told a writer for The New Yorker). Trump emerged as a political force owing to his full-throated embrace of “birtherism,” the false charge that the nation’s first black president, Barack Obama, was not born in the United States. His presidential campaign was fueled by nativist sentiment directed at nonwhite immigrants, and he proposed barring Muslims from entering the country. In 2016, Trump described himself to The Washington Post as “the least racist person that you’ve ever encountered.”

Why did Trump say something so racist!???? To appease many in his base? To encourage division? Frustration with the Squad’s attacks on him?

There's no criticism of a minority that's not racist, every good lib knows this.

    Not this again.
Your claim is simply not true. And at this point in the discussion about Trump, you really should know that.

Donald Trump has faced allegations of racism for decades

honestly, I wish those who keep defending these types of comments from a POTUS would leave this country...there is a whole body of work at this point, with Trump doubling down on each and every one...the nation has fought too long and hard to be going backwards in this regards...

I imagine it's just going to get worse as the demographics keep shifting...there is a chunk of the populace who this strikes fear in, who all happened to vote for Trump, and he isn't going to relinquish his megaphone when he steps down..
