Actually they like what they see because they no longer have to hide their true self.
Missing the point. Let's say you've been right all along and the tweets aren't racist. That doesn't change the fact they were chanting to deport her at a Trump rally. You said all along he was attacking her politics. You are condoning chanting to deport your political opponents.
I'm sure most people will just go back to their anonymous, miserable and largely inconsequential lives after a fun night of chuckling and racism. That's not particularly comforting, its not like everyone living under fascism was out in the streets beating up enemies of the state or doing genocide either. The indifference is largely how these things become reality, when a small but empowered number of people who aren't joking get their way and a much larger group of people don't care because their lives aren't impacted and they aren't the targets of ire. But again, I hope my concern is completely unfounded, but I've read too much history not to be. Its really uncanny how many contemporary people though Hitler was a crude buffoon and thought the whole anti-Semitic shtick was just impolite mass politicking on harmless prejudices.
Reagan: 'Gorby, tear down this wall!'
Trump: 'Mexico is paying for my wall!'
I'm condoning the sense of humor patently betrayed by the chant.
It was a Twitter battle--not a proposed executive order.
...and as usual, he was speaking hyperbolic ally.
Same goes for having incoherent moronic Tweet Storms (aka, diarrhea of the mouth) 24/7/365.
I blame my 10th grade teacher, who made us read Anthem.
What leads you believe it was humor? And you think 100% of the people were in on the joke. Because if you read any comment section on the internet, people are 100% serious.
While in this rally he mentioned Omar, the genesis of this discussion are his comments to all four women.
The fact of the matter is Trump sees them as less than American and communicated that directly using a racist trope he grew up hearing and probably using.
Wrt Mexican Anericans, he is attacking all of them and has done so consistently, with deceitful characterization of them as rapists murderers drug dealers, etc. Saying that only meant the illegal immigrants makes it no better because the overwhelming majority of them are good hard working people.
There is no excuse for any of it.
On topic, he is encouraging that same racism from his base at his latest rally and will likely continue to do so.
I believe that was her first one. I preferred Fountain Head.
It was the shortest, so as far as assigned reading goes, it could have been worse.
Pretty good books, if you like dystopian novels, which I do. What you have to avoid with her books is reading too much into them. Just enjoy them as good literature
That's the thing though, the writing seems secondary to the points she's trying to hammer home. The heroes and villains are all over the top and simply serve as mouth pieces for a exaggerated ideological POV. Granted, I've only ever read 2 of her books, and don't have the self-loathing inclination to tackle Atlas Shrugged.
Well I guess there’s a historical racial context to pretty much everything...
Sorry, she’s from Somalia...
She’s obviously American... I don’t know how many times I have to say it...
But if she hates America so much, she should go back to being Somalian...
Just because Trump says she hates America doesn't make it so.
I'd be curious to read some of the evidence that she hates America.
No, but equating al Qaeda to the US, the US army, and England does... Her constant complaining about how America is racist does. Her longing to radically change America does... Her characterization of 9/11 as “some people did something” does...
BTSS. Because Trump Said So.
It doesn't make it not so.
