Are there no Trump supporters offended by this kind of coercion of private enterprise by the federal government?

It is not going to happen any time soon. The new ownership team wants to get a new stadium built on the old RFK stadium site. They need the DC Mayor and the City Council to sign off on that. They will not do it if the name of the team is the Redskins, which they have repeatedly said they will not.

They would need to have the stadium built and finished before doing it. That would likely not be until after 2030.

Probably on the opposite side of the same issue when Obama said the team needed to change its name from the Redskins.

Without the coercive element, Obama's opinion was just that.

Let's be honest, Obama knew that just him saying it was going to be extremely coercive. After he said it, there was no stop reporting about it from major media outlets for a good six months to a year.

The only reason the name actually changed was because Fred Smith of FedEx was a minority partner in the team and Dan Snyder was screwing him over with the profits of the team. Smith withdrew from his partnership and started to spill the beans on what Dan was doing. To be get out from under the pressure, Snyder changed the team name.

Maybe they should just call them, the Rednecks instead... end that controversy once and for all. Lol. :D;)

I like how on the list of reasons they changed the name, "it was a literal racial slur" comes in like 7th.

I don’t remember this exactly, but I think dyno’s point about coercion is important. Explicitly saying that a contract will be canceled without compliance is another level. Plus, I think you are correct that Obama was accused of “choosing winners” many times.

I think your point about Obama choosing winners is a good one. I think Obama knew that all he had to do was suggest something and the majority of the press would run with it. Likely because a lot of what Obama wanted is what the majority of press rooms also wanted. All Obama had to do was suggest something and the majority of the press would run with it and write articles about why is was a good idea. Similar to how Ben Rhodes talked about being able to sell the Iran Nuclear Deal with a compliant press. I'd bet that Obama knew all he had to do was suggest something and the press would work to build some level of coercion to make it happen.

Trump is the opposite. He knows if he suggests something the majority of the press will be against it. So he says it, let's the press say he is wrong, and then tells his supporters that the press is attacking him again and they need to support his position. That gives him an excuse to use the powers of the Presidency to say he is just doing what the country wants.

    THIS.
This right here is why so many people voted and tolerate a wild man like Trump.
We all see how powerful the libbies are in govt and with media.
And I’m telling you that Obama to some degree created the political Donald Trump.

Good to see Trump pointing out all this virtue signaling nonsense. Hopefully Trump will have cleaned out a lot of this progressive nonsense before he leaves office.

that is wrong. that is not what he did here. nor is this what he typically does - & there are MANY examples - he explicitly uses threats of BIG GOV action - suggestions, rilly? What the "country wants (whatever that means)" should be irrelevant if you care about free enterprise & just plain ole freedom.

    furthermore...granted this from 2023.

Probably the only even remotely decent thing Snyder did as owner was to change them to the “Washington Football Team”.
