Trump Insists Washington Commanders Revert to Redskins

    Are the Commanders about to be trumpled into changing the team name, again? Everyone in the organization considers the matter settled. Fan approval has grown, no doubt aided by their past excellent season under that name. But Trump doesn't like it, and the franchise is currently seeking to build a new stadium on Federal Land. Cue Trump's heavy hand of intimidation.

    “The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, the social media network he owns. “There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!”

    BTW
    (The earliest Cleveland baseball franchise was not a founding member of the National League and cycled through several nicknames before it became the Indians in 1915. Liar, or lazy ignoramus?

    I still call then the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland baseball team the Cleveland Indians because it is a habit after over 60 years. Also have to watch myself or I will call the Colts the Baltimore Colts even though they moved to Indianapolis many years ago. Others like the Los Angeles Raiders come to mind and still sound right to me. :devil:

    Well, that didn't take long. Trump loves his bully pulpit.

    The original Post story was updated 5 minutes ago:

    "Hours later, Trump threatened to block the Commanders from building a stadium at the RFK site if they do not change their name.

    “My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way,” he wrote in another post. “I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone.”

    I still call them the redskins. They should definitely change their name back. The owners had been thinking about this prior to Trump weighing in

    Not according to this guy:

    "Washington played for two seasons as the Washington Football Team before it adopted Commanders for the 2022 season. This February, owner Josh Harris, who bought the team in 2023, committed to sticking with the current name."

    “It’s now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff,” Harris said then. “We’re going with that. Now, in this building, the name Commanders means something.”
