Blanket pardons don’t work well. Look at what happened to Ford. I wouldn’t expect DeSantis or any of the others to curse their term in office by pardoning the Big Grifter.

He didnt have big money or elite backing in 2016. He's a known quantity now with a record, that will be what undoes him now, not the other stuff.

The GOP elite quickly shifted to him as he kept embarrassing the other “chosen ones”, like Bush. By the general election, he had the money, and even more so, he had the power brokers and the Foxian platform at his disposal.

Why would that be any different again if Trump embarrasses "chosen one" DeSantis

It could happen in theory. But Trump’s 2nd grade “techniques” has lost its luster, his message is stale, and people don’t want to support a “loser,” which is what he has become. If he makes it to the primaries and trounces the challengers early on, you will have me proved wrong. But Zo don’t even think he makes it to the first debate.

I honestly think Trump is running now more to take in donations and try and politically shield himself from prosecution as much as his narcisssm.
Which means even if he craters in the polls he won’t suspend his campaign.

Right now DeSantis is creating vaccine cops and our own bizarro-CDC, just what normal Americans are demanding (but the anti-vax stuff probably bleeds some MAGA support)

Unfortunately it’s one of the few dangerous contagions I’ll admit are all too real.

Since there are a number of variables I'm reluctant to make a prediction as to whether or not Trump ends up with the nomination in 2024 but I am predicting that if he does end up with the nomination the big money and power brokers will rally around him as they did in 2016. Paraphrasing what one of the gay cowboys said to the other in the movie Brokeback Mountain if Trump ends up with the nomination they won't be able to quit him. Although it may end up being in exercise in futility if Trump is the GOP nominee they would rather back him than risk the election or reelection of a Democrat.

Yes, because the impact of this contagion makes me ill when I look at my bills and my taxes and other things.

But if someone gets sick from a virus, you are like "nah, that's make believe"

You should be taking the GOP establishment to task for not having had the courage to vociferously disown Trump, at the latest, after the events of January 6. I value Republicans, though I am a Democrat, but today's GOP is an abomination, and it was that as much as anything that sober American voters responded to. Herschel Walker as a SENATOR!?! A disgrace. I hope the party comes to its senses and puts up candidates such as Romney.

I have always despised Trump with a passion. I have never despised traditional Republicans. I've repeatedly said on this site that they are a crucial part of the national discourse and the compromises that have been reached as a result. I don't want a one party system!!!
