Johnson’s hits remind me of Randy Russell’s highlights from a couple years ago. The young man accelerates through the initial contact.

Has Any one else had as bad of luck with personnel issues in the secondary like we have had? Harris, Russel, Wilson, Huggins, etc etc... Just off the top of my head

I'm 5 months and change out from ACL repair. Granted I tore ACL MCL and meniscus but even with world class facilities and supervision time is time with these things. It is hard to describe the funkyness that is in there. I have always been told it will be 6months to a year before it feels normal amd then another year before you trust it. Seems about right that Wilson isn't all there yet

The aggressive coverage we saw last year may have an affect on their skill set too. Seems we are much more conservative and keep things in front. Dean best quality to me was not letting receivers get off the line. Seems we are just letting them run their routes this year.

I agree. I can NOT live with getting torched through the air due to a zone or soft man or that stupid boundry CB playing man D and the field CB playing zone look that we (and a lot of teams are doing look) do.

I CAN live with playing press man cover 0, 1, or 2 and just getting beat man on man. That's what made our DB's over the years A LOT of money come draft time. The 2012, 2014, and 2016 games against FSU is the staple of the kind of press physical coverage that i feel we have the DB's to do but just aren't doing it.

I have been wondering why we took an unranked Jax player and thought it was in part to re-establish our presence there.

So where do you see him playing aside from STs?

He's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than his ranking and I think he'll play just about anywhere. He has the skill set and tenacity to play safety, corner, or STAR

Good. Remember how good our D was under Meyer and Muschamp in large part because our DB group was lock-down? Hoping we get better and our DC plays a tougher D scheme. I think we’ve all had it with zone.

I get the Duke Dawson, Pops Saunders, Brian Poole vibe from him when I watch him. May not stand out physically, but they showed up every Saturday and did the dayum thing.

He'll knock your damn block off if you aren't ready

Kids the best db in jax, complete stud. He will be reranked soon, will still be underrated, but closer to reality.

In my opinion steel was just a okay athlete. If he couldn't hold or grab a receiver he wasn't that good in coverage in my opinion.

Agree. He is not the aggressive tackler he was from high school and freshman year.

Agree with the above comments. Our Safety and Star position players are never in the same zip code with their pass coverage. Marco and CJ have not been a Haden and Jenkins in coverage. Would be nice to bring back Vance Bedford as an Analyst for Coach Mullen.

    Very nice highlights.

When he first signed, I thought: "Ok, this coaching staff has recruited 7 DBs all of whom contributed as True Frosh (in spring for Steele) - Burney, Dean, Huggins, Steele, Elam, Hill & Kimbrough and to date, every one of them (other than Steele who would have been playing since he was the Starter at CB with Marco out this spring) has played their first year and all lost their RSs except perhaps Kimbrough. Although Dean has not played well at Star (many say he's a far better Corner or Saftey than Star), he became a competent CB last year, and it's pretty much desperation that forced them to put him at Star.

Given this 100% HIT history, I expected Johnson to be another excellent under-rated DB, but that film makes me think he's gonna be better than merely excellent. I mean, he's fast, smart, hard hitting, really quick with everything and against top competition. People so overrate ratings.
