We have some guys on campus that were fairly high rated and haven’t played yet. We could have a couple emerge or have nothing but Gervon. I think we could see some surprises throughout and the portal may have different priorities than we think. TE is an example of possibly having a need that wasn’t there last week. I’m not sure if we go to the portal for DL as we have some bodies. We just need a plug and play with experience it seems. Sometimes playing young guys pays off down the road. A guy can’t play four full years if he never sees the field until year three. That’s one thing I didn’t like about Mullen, too many year three guys that never say the field.

We don't have many DT on campus.....and only one guy that has ever played quality snaps (maybe 2 if you count Lee in the bowl game). I can't recall a point where we have ever been this thin and unproven. It's critical IMO

Can’t remember the names but there are a few bodies, just no playing time.

It's a pretty short list....Gervon, Lee, Goods, Humphries, and the freshman McLellan. McDowell has spent some time there, apparently now at TE...but he isn't a legit DT option obviously (nor is Humphries at this juncture)

I agree on both players, but with the mess our TE position is for scholarship players, I am afraid we will have to dip into the portal for a TE, which is not ideal based on other needs. Napier has used 2 TE sets a lot. I expect Zanders' move is permanent.

Think so to on Zanders, which hopefuly saves us burning a counter in the portal. Hopefully you can use Hansen, Zanders and Odam as the "big" TE and Zipp, Elk, and Boardingham at the other spot

I'm taking Napier's public praise for face value instead of Zanders being the best of bad options. I am presuming Elk will be ready for fall camp and Odom will not, so that might affect Odom's pt. I am more than a bit concerned about depth early in the season. I don't count on OL/TE with shoulder injuries that are chronic or could be after surgery (depending on the type of injury), and I don't count on freshmen either. That gives me concern.

Depends on the player available, right? If a dynamic two-way TE comes available, I'd be willing to jump on that. Now, there aren't a lot of those guys around, and they tend not to hit the portal, but should it happen, I don't think we could pass on that.

I agree we don't need another depth chart body/10-catches-a-year type.

But that te that came in a few years ago was our best te. Him I would take

    Christopher Thomas has big upside.
    Goods
Jalen Lee gave some quality snaps when given opportunities late.
    McClellan plays this year

almost forgot Watson!!! He gives us 20-25 snaps and we are fine.

4 that will play there and Dexter makes 5. One from portal and we are fine. You’ll see a kid at DE like the kid from STA slide inside occasionally on passing downs.
