Interesting to review traits of a cult leader as we approach election season here and in other countries, including the upcoming 'election' in Russia. Some points have a religious-type cult overtones, but many are applicable to politics. Note this is from 2012 so not targeted to anyone current.

    just a few…
    • He has a grandiose idea of who he is and what he can achieve.
    • Requires excessive admiration from followers and outsiders.
    • Is frequently boastful of accomplishments.
    • Anyone who criticizes or questions him is called an “enemy.”

In my entire life I've probably seen a combined 50 Obama shirts and bumper stickers. And I've probably seen 3000 Trump shirts, flags, stickers, hats, and merchandise.

One is a cult. One is a politician

That equivocation attempt is weak sauce. Show us the same level of evangelical zeal with which large numbers of supporters of Obama or anyone else will go to no ends to justify, enable, defend, and support them no matter what. There is no equivalent to the maga movement.

    And
      1. Exploits others by asking for their money or that of relatives, putting others at financial risk.
      2. Has an exaggerated sense of power (entitlement) that allows him to bend rules and break laws.
      3. Needs to be the center of attention and does things to distract others to ensure that he or she is being noticed, e.g., by arriving late, using exotic clothing, overdramatic speech, or by making theatrical entrances
      4. Behaves as though people are objects to be used, manipulated, or exploited for personal gain.
What recent US leader displays these personality traits?

In fairness, I do remember children in classrooms singing about him.

Scary how many of those items in the article Trump checks the boxes on. What is even scarier is how many people refuse to acknowledge it

I would say 40 or more out of 50 easily apply to Trump. The ones that don’t are ones that are applicable to an explicit cult

Put in context the singing about Obama was part of a celebration of Black History Month in 2009 with same video being shown repeatedly. No where remotely close to Trump's MAGA rallies.

Didn't he have the 'messiah' moniker? Sounds kinda cultish.

Painfully obvious to anyone with a shred of objectivity. Although there's probably quite a few who see it but don't care because "go team!"
