Looks like these boys gave gone to the "pay to read" format to prop up revenue. Won't be paying for the fluffball articles, and won't be visiting there again. It's one thing to pay for expert & insightful coverage, quite another to read "spacefiller."

haha thought the same thing and just said well I guess I dont have to read dooley anymore

I did find a work around... If you pull it up on your phone and switch the story to reader mode or whatever it's called before the please pay us thing pops up, you can still read it.

It's ridiculous that lots of newspaper sites are starting to charge to read articles.... yet they advertise all over their sites and now they want to charge subscriptions....ridiculous.... I'm not paying jack

The newspaper business is dying. This is their attempt to hook a few to stave off the inevitable for a little while longer. Blogging is going to be the vehicle of choice in the future. The real problem is that blogs don't always play by professional rules.

Well, if you look at what some folks use as "professional protocols" I am not sure we are missing anything anyways. I am more worried about political beat writers being lost, not sports types.

They did that before for a time. Their app works. And Gainesville.com did before but haven't checked lately.

Noticed this also today. I honestly only ready the sun sports website because of my Gators sports obsession, but the content quality is pretty mediocre-to-poor... Surprised they would go this route. I'll stick with my sub to The Athletic.

For you blackhats out there - even with the stupid subscription wall in your face, you can still copy and paste the article from out of the browser, further demonstrating the incompetency over at the Sun.

Honestly, these websites are getting bold (stupid). Blocking people with Ad blockers and putting up pay walls for content you can find free everywhere isn't always the best choice.

The LAST place I go to for Gators news is a newspaper.

I just went through my phone and ipad.
GC has a good model good news lots of detail.
Other sites including the UF site has info worth reading.
There are some decent podcasts all free.

On Twitter guys like de la Torre, Goldkamp give good short info with links to news. Very helpful
    The Athletic has superb writing.
Zach Goodall seems good - new to the Gators beat.

It's like waiting until 11 to watch for info on local sports in a news broadcast.

Who cares about TOS? I can't find one person who does

What I am going to miss the most is knowing when Depends is going on sale.

    Um, for my mother. Honest.

More and more sites I go to now immediately put up a ‘turn off your Ad-Blocker’ notice and won’t allow you to read the article unless you do. No thanks, I like my Ad-Blocker, the article is not really that important anyway.

Paying for that site isn't going to work out too well. Incidentally, I love that 1965 Gator Helmet, doing that uniform as a retro look would be way cool.

This is the revenue source for newspapers. Think of how many things you do or see that both have a "subscription" and advertising. Heck, it even happens in the movie theatre. What about cable TV, or ESPN+ and others. They have to find a model that will bring in enough income to make the business model work.

Why would you want newspapers to die? There has been, and continues to be, some incredible reporting done by newspapers. Losing a news source is not a good thing.
