So why did he take advice from Army Special Forces Veteran Nate Boyer on how to respectfully protest without being disrespectful to the flag. FYI, taking a knee is actually a military tradition on the battlefield to honor a recently fallen comrade.

The ones getting beer and nachos while the NA is being played or those still out in the parking lot tailgating?:p

Thanks - I live near the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Museum and the SR-71 has a special place on the floor. It is the first aircraft you will see along with the space shuttle Discovery in the hanger just behind it when you walk into the complex. One magnificent piece of technology.

I stated earlier in this thread that the NFL was talking to the wrong crowd to start with. It's not the players, the military, or even President Trump. It's the fans and if you don't satisfy the fans you lose period.

As for genuflecting on the battle field to honor fallen comrades in arms no one is playing the national anthem at that point. In fact if any tune were appropriate at that point it would be Taps.

The voice of reason. This is someone who gets what that flag is really all about. It is a disgrace to use it as an excuse to silence dissent or try to make uncomfortable truths go away.

Yes, dissent is silence and never covered by the media on various other issues. So why make a big deal here? It's just the American way.

I disagree that if a person dislikes X about the country and chooses to protest X by not standing for the anthem then his dislike extends to everything about the country including the military.

Say Bernie got elected and raised taxes on my income level by 50%. And I said I have no pride in a country that has such oppressive taxes and to protest I stopped standing for the anthem. Would you say my protest of high taxes extended to being anti-military? I just don't think that makes any sense.

I got the opportunity to watch one take off back when we lived at Tyndall AFB - back then it was called the YF-12A.....before that, briefly known as the F-112

Is it possible that there is a difference between why they went and why they were sent.

    So misguided here.

If your intention is to bring light to an issue and not disrespect the flag and Anthem, then don't disrespect the flag and Anthem by taking a knee when they are displayed and played.

No one has ever argued you don't have a right to take a knee. I support your right to do so.

I also think you are a f'n asshole when you do it and if you were standed in the middle of a desert broken down, I will let you walk for assistance.

    Read the ESPN article.

5.4 million paid to 14 teams over an4 year period.

Players being present for the Anthem was trying to curry favor with the viewing public. Nothing more.

If you aren't offended or pissed off by someone is respecting our flag and Anthem, doesn't say much for you.

What exactly would get you pissed off? Calling your mama a whore? That is about how pissed I get when I see someone disrespect my country.

We all have our lines in the sand.

Just because someone respects the right to protest doesn't mean they love the country any less than you do. I wouldn't kneel for the anthem. I sing along and have trouble keeping a dry eye by the time it's over.
But protest is about as American as it gets. We were born out of protest.

You are agreeing with me here.

I respect their right to protest. I just think they are an asshole by disrespecting the flag and Anthem.

Their protest should be toward the police who are actually doing what the players are accusing them of.

Doesn't offend me one bit if someone chooses not to stand or sing the anthem. I try not to let what other people do dictate what I do or feel. It doesn't change one bit how I feel about the anthem and flag. I guess that makes you the one with thin skin and says more about you than me.

Not even close. I'm not angry when they protest and that's your entire point. You're pissed off, your mad, it's like calling your mother a whore. Not only that, you think something wrong's with someone who isn't pissed off.
    We don't agree. At all.
