To her credit, she is a proponent of torture. I will avoid tying that to any gender specific characterization. ;)

Of course he knows why he was fired. They're just not willing to say it publicly.

Thanks for the reply and comments, Oak.

I think you may have misread my comment.

I didn't state my opinion of who would be best.

I gave an opinion of why Trump made the change.

    Big difference there.

I don't spend a lot of time in this forum but I have seen on other forums a lot of posters with itchy trigger fingers ready to pounce on anyone saying something they may not agree with. In their haste, they misread what is actually written.

Not saying you are a bad person, heaven forbid. I respect you more than you know.

    All the best.....

Fair enough and the respect is mutual.

I was in fact trying to respond to what I thought your intended post was. Not that I was trying to disagree with you, but assuming you were correct in your assessment, I was disagreeing that Trump could accomplish that goal with the decision he made.

Maybe that's why she was selected. During the campaign Trump said that he didn't think that waterboarding went far enough.

Not a fan of this: Tillerson was a successful appointment and had been doing a pretty good job at State. He was respected and brought a fresh perspective to the agency--while achieving a lot of positive things while on the job.

It's OK to not *always* see eye to eye on things. Since that seems to be Trump's main reason for firing him, that's of large concern for me since surrounding yourself with yes men is bad in business and in government too.

You might be the only person who thinks he was doing a good job. We've had former state department people from previous administrations, R & D that said he was possibly the worst SoS ever.

It has now come out that Trump told him the news last Friday.

I thought he was doing a good job too.

Within parameters of a significant downsizing. I don't know what the right staffing level is for the State Dept, but anytime you cut a lot of people, a lot of the remaining folks are going to be over worked and upset at the losses.

Yeah, the issue with that largely deals with growth (if you have 5 employees with an average of 3 years employment each or 15 employee-years and you hire 5 more right now, suddenly, my average and median tenure is 1.5). Their turnover is not as tiny as it is in some industries, but it isn't that the average employee is gone in 1-2 years either.

...I expect a certain amount of bitterness from (R&D) former employees who lost their jobs. Trump (and Tillerson) have encouraged a lot of early retirements.

It's a fact he was one of Trump's few appointments who had a lot of intl respect and credibility, however. He's done a lot in a short amount of time. Reassuring and rebuilding alliances in Europe, the ME, and Asia; moved a ton of mountains to get the intl community to get unified about NK; did a lot of damage control for Trump (and did so credibly); etc.

You don't have to like Trump or his Administration (and I'm not fond of either) to respect the work Tillerson did.

I guess if your parameters are making sure a bunch of people left while not filling key positions, while also drawing less foreign service applicants and destroying internal morale while conducting no significant diplomacy he did a wonderful job.

After Tillerson was fired, the State Department spokesman issued this:

And then the spokesman was fired.

Of course, by today’s standards, my idiot dog would be a good hire. Full disclosure, he is a lab that is scared of the water.

Vox has a pretty negative story about him, too.

Link: Rex Tillerson has been fired. Experts say he did damage that could last "a generation."

Bill Kristol, as well as a lot of Liberals, initially criticized Trump hiring Tillerson for being too pro-Putin, but today he's saying Tillerson was too anti-Putin!

"Tillerson being hired is proof, PROOF of Russian collusion!"
"Tillerson being fired is proof, PROOF of Russian collusion!"

    It is mind bottling.
