The people on BOTH sides who spend all day on the Internet, social media, and on TV bitching and moaning about the state of this country seem to think differently.

Not directed at slightlyskeptic, but our country is full of people who claim we are the greatest country on earth who have never left their own state.

There were guys in the barracks who were borderline suffering from depression in Germany because they said it sucked and wanted to go back home to whatever small town they were from back in the USA. We were in the middle of Munich and Salzburg with so much to do, but all they did was play Playstation in their rooms. Barely left the base. In contrast, a lot of people extend their military or civilian service to stay overseas because they love it so much. No one country is perfect, but many are great. Really just depends on what each individual prioritizes.

I can state whatever I want about this country without needing any validation from you or anyone else.

Then we can say this is Biden's problem then.

Well, Biden is President. It's definitely his "problem." (I don't consider these people to be a "problem.") But the reason that a ton of Haitians were sitting at the border is a combination of Trump's and Biden's awful border policies.

What is always interesting to me is how many who say this country is so great talk about how bad our institutions are, the govt is, deep state, the media, education, major population centers and more than half of the citizens who disagree with their world view.

So what is so Great? The flag and the military? And farms?

Yes, and similarly, anyone can challenge it.

We should build more schools? Our schools are not very good. Let's build more shitty schools and water down the teacher talent. How should we pay for it? Do teachers need to learn spanish? Give me some solutions and how they will work. Don't just tell me how you feel. That's the problem with the democrats. No game plans for success. Spend tax payer money on feelings and emotions.

You act as if there is a finite and static set of "teacher talent." That is a false premise. In what was are the schools as a whole "shitty?" That sounds like a pretty emotional assessment based on your feelings.

Quite a few teachers know Spanish (many as a first language). However, much like every other immigrant group that came to the US not knowing the language, the children learn English before the parents. Then their kids speak it primarily. Then their kids often don't even know the original language.

I gave you solutions. When populations increase, we build more services as demand for those services increases. The good news is that the people paying for those services also increases as does the labor supply for those services (as population increases, so do both of those things). I mean, look at the growth in Florida. Nobody said, "Oh wow, lots of people are showing up. We don't have enough schools and teachers, roads, law enforcement and emergency services, etc. to handle these people. I guess we are just screwed." They built new schools. They built new roads. They increased the amount spent on law enforcement and emergency services.

We're sending people back to Haiti, even though they left there years ago.

Deportees land in Port-au-Prince: ‘Nobody told us we were going back to Haiti’

Combined with how desperate and destitute they are. The only way to fix the border problems is to give all the immigrants hope that they can have a decent life in their own country. We continue to try andctreat the symptoms while ignoring the disease

If you let a certain contingent tell it, the only time America has been “great” in modern times was from January 2017 to January 2021.o_O

That's certainly true. Migration is driven largely by external factors. Greater enforcement ironically just results in less migrants leaving. At best, you might be able to deter migrants from coming for periods of time. But all you are doing is delaying, rather than preventing. If you actually want to prevent mass migration, you have to promote stability and economic prosperity in their home countries.

We've been down that road before and that doesn't solve the problem either.

Why do you think that the number of apprehensions of Mexicans at the border fell from 1.6 million in 2000 to 150K in 2018?
