Lewis was my favorite player growing up in Tally. DYK he passed away couple years ago?

One thing Ill add on Varnes, which does make a difference IMO.. Dont think he ever had any MLB aspirations. Never drafted, never even gave minors a try. But he didnt throw much over 80 either..(90 on todays guns).

 

Agree on Varnes but that was “11” being “11” IMO.

Yeah, I knew Richie Lewis passed—only 55 yrs old. For some reason the number I remember on him at the start of a year was 178–can’t say that’s 100% accurate though.

 

Lewis wasnt in the top 5 since 1981 list I posted. I was looking for box scores lastnight.. Hard to find them that long ago lol

vs. LSU in the Super Dome. I thought the walks said "B" because surely there couldn't be 13 walks in a game where only one run was surrendered (say what!). But 13 walks plus 12 strikeouts seems like a lot of pitches could add up for a single pitcher throwing 9 innings.

Everybody's favorite Seminole had 4 triples that year.

During au-lsu series Greg Olson was telling stories about aubs last sweep vs lsu. 1988, said Ben McDonald took 2 losses in series. 100+ pitches in game 1 loss. Bertman brings him in to close game 3 and takes another loss. And Im pretty sure games 2 & 3 were Sat DH(next day)..Not certain on that, but either way, thats much more concerning damage wise than the 140+ pitch games IMO.

I just think these HCs were a product of the time.. Graham, Gustafson, Stevenson, etc
