    A smaller field, a longer race by 1 1/6th of a mile.

We'll see how the odds change tomorrow when the betting windows open.

Anyone want to venture some picks tomorrow??

Not exactly a stellar field. Believe I read this is the first time since 1951 that none of the top 4 finishers in the Deby are running the Preakness. This crop of 3yo’s is just okay.

Improbable, the Bob Baffert trained horse, finished 4th in the Derby... He now also benefits by a jockey change, Mike Smith will be up on the mount.

War Of Will had a horrible trip in the Derby, getting tangled up behind the backstretch mess, then forced wide.
The rest of the field will take some studying.
We'll have to see what the odds board says tomorrow.. I have a couple ideas, but I'll see.

fwiw, they were referencing the original order of finish on how they crossed the finish line, Improbable was 5th.

Granted, but he was awarded 4th...
The entire Derby was a screwed up race after Maximum Security veered out about 5 laned wide, then back in almost to the rail, which caused more than half the field to check up, veeer wide, or, on the case of War Of Will, clip heels.
The order of finish would have been totally different if not for that backstretch fiasco.

Bourbon War. Got early speed on both sides of him so should get a pretty clean trip. He's a closer and you can't go wrong with bourbon.
Unfortunately that 12 to 1 price won't hold.

My bad... meant to say shorter...

    Shorter field, and shorter race.

Only a few speedsters in the race, so it will be interesting to see what kind of pace is set.

War of Will is still my pick. He proved he is willing to tuck in on the rail if he has to so he will be there as they turn for home. That showing at the Derby holding behind the leader all the way around and then making a run at the lead was all WOW. His jockey was just riding. Of course he has a burst of speed when needed but how long will that last. The unknown is can he hold the lead down the stretch. If he already has the lead when they make the turn for home then its all over if WOW can see the finish. His jockey will hold him until he needs that burst to see him through.

If War of Will was good enough to win the Derby had he not been interfered with, he should win the Preakness against this uninspiring field

Not a stellar field. Any one of these horse can win. I would take a shot on Alwaysmining. He is the only gelding in this crappy field. Usually you don't see too many geldings in a race like this, but i suspect his handlers feel they can steal this race. Reading about him, he was gelded after being purchased near the end of his 2 year old campaign. He came back this year a different horse. Big step up in class, so knowing this is a crap shoot, i like him to wire the field.

Not much intrigue without Maximum Security and Country House in the race.

It's an entirely different race than the Derby this time...
With no shot at a Triple Crown, the intrigue isn't there, but it's an entirely different race to handicap
