I would argue that RR doesn't make albums. Never been sure what it is he does. Oh, & by the way he produced a Limp Bizkit album, so....

His job is to make sure the album is good. Limp Bizkit was just a cocaine mistake, nothing more

this is probably a silly arg for TH, but that has never been my understanding of what RR does. It is my understanding that he somehow helps the artist make the record that they want to make.

I was more making a joke. But I view a record producer the same as a movie producer. Beginning to end, piece it all together. Make sure its what the artist wants but doesn't suck. Etc.

Digesting it still. I like the experimental nature. Sorta like Sturgill Simpson has done.

It may not be his best work, but I like the effort to evolve.

I've listened to some - mainly b/c of the hubbub. Not a huge fan in general. I agree with you; I like the effort to evolve...& I think that that can be hard in country/country adjacent music. BTW, you should listen to John Moreland. He's a great songwriter. On his 5th (LP5) & sixth (Birds in the Ceiling) albums, he added a good bit of electronic embellishments which, IMO, mostly work. It created a stir, but he's so small time it flew mostly under the radar.

I bet no one had Koalas with STDs on their TC song theme bingo card.

here he is with 0 embellishments.*

    * his normal output is w/ a full band.

Rick Rubin has to be up there with top people I'd like to have a beer with.

Here's the closest Ive been. Almost 3 hours with Dan Carlin - in case you have a road trip planned:

I had similar Sturgill vibes with his new album. Not near as successfully as Sturgill pulled off the experimental alt country stuff, but similar.

You are flirting with getting some off-topic ratings right there. Better watch it!

If you keep going you might have to take a side in the Moreland / Zach Bryan feud
