If past evidence is a predictor of future results, and boy howdy does it seem like it strongly applies to Billy, I fully expect a lethargic, sloppy team to take an L to cow bells. I think he finds a way vs aTm just because we match up decently (their poor qb and offense). UCF off a bye week is the pink slip game IMO. If we are at best the 4th team in Florida, its should be over right then and there.
Like I said in the post you quoted, if Billy goes 4-0 in the next 4 he will have a chance to save his job. That’s it, he will simply have a chance. That means beating 2-3 from Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, and F$U. If he does that he can finish with 6-7 wins. Chances are slim but they do exist. If he fails to go 4-0 in the next 4, the chances of him winning 6-7 games this season are about 1%. Not impossible, but also not realistic. So once again, 4-0 in the next 4 affords him a chance. Anything less pretty much negates it.
No worries, I believe FSU may have taken that title from us. They may just be the worst team in the state. They have been manhandled the last two weeks by GT and BC. Even with their schedule unless they drastically improve it's hard to find even 5 wins on their schedule after dropping 1st 2.
Wasn't sure of the bye week comment, but we have the bye, not UCF (they host Colorado). 4-0 is doable. TAMMY hosts Texas this weekend and hopefully it's a brutal game, with TAMMY losing in 7 OTs.
If UCF beats us, he won't be fired the "same day". He might have his head under the guillotine, but it won't drop right away. Too complicated to do that over night, and not in our best interests to do so.
Every one tends to forget that Spurrier lost to Tennessee (at Tennessee) 45-3 in his 1st season The problem for Coach Napier is that Spurrier started that season with 5 wins, including Alabama at Alabama… and of course it is season 3 for Billy. Four wins in a row for Billy would produce a somewhat similar record and similar lopsided loss, but with a totally different mind set amongst fans. Now Spurrier also won 4 in a row after that before losing to FSU (at FSU), if Billy can also pull that off , he’s absolute good to go for another year… that seems an impossible task if right now. Of course Spurrier also won the SEC East that year (on the field) and beat Georgia, unfortunately for Coach Napier (and I think Gator fans) I like my chances at Mega Millions more.
Can't believe you're comparing Napier's record to Spurrier in any manner. They don't even belong in the same sentence together. Cmon man, you must be really bored.
1-3. I am a realist. When does basketball season start? Baseball season? Good lord, we were not a great team but still scrapped to a CWS birth. Don’t see that kind of scrappiness in this football team.
Samford, W sloppy but still a W AtM, Tall order. At least we get them at home. at miss st, traditionally this has been a hard game for UF. Miss st. won't want to miss a chance to get us. It will be their super bowl. , ucf, a must win Hoping for 4-0, fearing more of a 2-2 scenario. After that the slate gets much harder, with F$U and KY being the best shots at a W.
I read on another site…supposed insiders…that the two biggest football boosters already told the board of trustees - not stricklin, the board of trustees, is that they are done with Billy. They were both convinced things would turn this year by stricklin and Napier. They are pissed. They contribute the most of anyone to NIL. They will not provide future NiL if Billy is back. Could be BS. I don’t know. my own opinion….going 4-0 next 4 games isn’t enough to keep his job. It would help. But I think he needs to exceed the floor expectation of 6-6 or 7-5 now. I think hr needs 8-4 or better and maybe even 9-3 or better to have any shot.
Going 4-0 in the next 4 won’t be enough but it gives him a chance. If he is sitting at 4-1 going into Knoxville he has a chance to get to seven wins. Not the best of chances but a decent one. If he is sitting at 2-3 or 1-4 headed to Knoxville, he has absolutely zero chance to get 7 wins. So again, an uphill climb but not impossible. Lets see if Billy responds when he knows they are onto him.
If you follow coaching hiring history, there is no obvious trend to learn from. Sometimes the projects work out, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes the sure things work out, sometimes they don’t. The only real lesson to learn is from Tennessee- just keep trying until you hit it and don’t stick it out with someone who doesn’t quickly look to be a winner. It’s obvious when you hit it. You don’t need to wait for someone to turn into something he isn’t.
I think it can be done - getting to 7- I just don’t think he keeps his job anymore with 7 wins. Needs more.
