First matter is the traditional hard core football rivalries. They are Bama/Auburn, Uf/uga, Ole miss/Miss st, and add in Tex/TexAM, Tex/Ok. I did not include Lsu/Bama, UT/vandy, Uga/Aub, or UT/Bama.

Schedule of 9 conference games. Two divisions. 8 teams each as follows:

EAST: UF, Uga, Ole Miss, Miss St, UK, UT, vandy, USCe

WEST: Bama, Auburn, Tex, TexAM, Okla, Mizzou, Lsu, Arky.

It may be a bit heavy loaded to west initially, but over time there are leveling cycles.

Play, per DM, 4 home, 4 away and 1 neutral like in Atlanta, Miami, Jax, Raliegh, New Orleans, Dallas, Memphis, et al. Those would not include a "virtual" home team. To give UF or Uga the opportunity to play say in Dallas vs somebody, then play the UF/Uga game as 4 or 5 or 6 in Jax, 1 in Gville and 1 in Athens over 6-8 yrs.

I think Uga and Aub would have issues with this, they have one of the nations longest running rivalries.

The oldest rivalry in the Deep South (I think UNC and UVa have a slightly longer running rivalry).

The Mississippi's don't belong in the E any more than Mizzou does. Move Bama and Auburn to the East, Mizzou to the West where it belongs, play 7 divisional games + 2 (or 3) rotating every year. This solves all of the "traditional" rivalry games except LSU-Bama and adds back traditional rivalry games in UT-ATM and UF-Auburn. The East gets 2 of the currently tougher teams in the West, but leaves LSU and A&M and adds two traditionally tough teams. I don't understand why everyone is getting their shorts in a twist about moving Bama and Aub to the East. It doesn't matter in the long run because all the schedules will be plenty tough once you add Tex and Okie.

Put all the weaker teams in the East. Lacks competitive balance. Likely need to play your 7 common opponents in SEC East or West, but unfair to rotate and have one team get stuck playing Bama or Oklahoma each year in East or have a west team get UGA or UF. Others getting patsies makes the record unfair in determining champions

If the SEC goes to 9 games, UF will need to get the extra home game (5 vs 4)in the years we are the home team vs Ga in Jax (assuming that game stays), otherwise we will have only 3 true home games in the years we are the home team in Jax. Same for Georgia. As I've said before, I'm not a fan of an odd number of SEC games.

Also, going to 10 SEC games means the Gators have even less home games every year. Possibly better opponents but less home games in the future it seems. Not a fan of expanding the regular season any further.

Why would MSU/Ole Miss make more sense than Auburn/Bama in the East? Not only would the latter make more sense geographically but Bama-UT, Auburn-UGA and Iron Bowl all are protected with that arrangement without needing permanent cross division rivals (which is what causes the trash schedule we get today).

At least without cross divisional permanents and with 9 games you would rotate 2 teams cross divisional every year, working through the opposite division every 4 instead of every 6 years like now. Still would take 8 years to play a home game.

Which is why pods keep resurfacing as an option. You’d need an 11 SEC game schedule with your setup to play through the entire SEC as frequently as a 9 SEC game 4 pod setup.

A bit heavy loaded to the west!!!! 2 teams in the East that have or may compete for a national title and 5 maybe 6 teams in the west as good and/or better. Of course steel sharpens steel.

    4 teams, 4 pods.

#1 pod plays each other (3 games), and all play pod #2 (4 games).

#3 and #4 do the same.

POD winners will have played the same SEC teams so there is same strength of schedule.

    Repeat for year 2.

Keep your traditional rivalries. Every 4 years we play every SEC team both home and away. 7 SEC games plus a championship game.

My suggestion is close but every team has a rival in every other pod.

IMHO the new schedules will be set on maintaining whatever Bama wants, with some UGA taken into account. UF will get Texas, LSU, and OU as permanent cross conference rivals.

How do you determine the title game participants? Assume the pods would be something like below.

    UF
    UGA
    Usce
    UK

    Bama
    UT
    Vandy
    Auburn

    Miss state
    Ole Miss
    LSU
    ARK

    TEXAS
    Ou
    Mizz
    A&M

We should keep the East and West divisions, with two-4 team pods in each division.

The winner of the two eastern pods play in a semi-final.
The winner of the two western pods play in a semi-final.
The number twos play the number twos, threes play threes, and fours play fours.

This would be the last (unscheduled) conference game of the year.

The following week the winner of the East and West meet in Atlanta.

Since the pods in any given year play the exact same schedule (pods #1 and #2 play each other in year 1), then the winner of that plays the winner of pods #3 and #4.

The following years pods #1 and #3 may play each other, so that winner would play the #2 and #4 winner. 7 game SEC is brutal enough. If you rotate home and away, each team plays every SEC team once every 3 years.

Left out MU-ARK. Ozark duel that puts to shame anything that came out of NW SC.
