I think barnes originally signed Williams I could be mistaken but I don't think so.
I think he committed but never signed with Barnes at Providence.
First let's see who VT hires as their coach. Second, who offers a grad degree (A&M, Florida etc) that is not offered by VT. Blackshear knows William's system, so it could make sense for him to follow his coach. I have seen guys totally go bust trying to transition to an unfamiliar system
By the way, Texas Tech's Matt Mooney was a grad transfer from South Dakota.
VPI hired Mike Young out of Wofford.
I'm not sure if that helps or hurts our cause. I hope it helps.
Jeantal Cylla would be a great grad transfer pickup in my opinion. Florida kid from Boynton Beach. Started at UNC-Wilmington this year and averaged 14/5. He got offers from Tennessee and Virginia Tech so he's legit. And this dude is built like a grown man power forward. This video is from August 2018 and he's built like a tank. Definitely a kid you could use at multiple positions.
I live in Wilmington. Kid can play at the p5 level.
Was a top 25 in Florida kid in 2014.
He transferred from FAU. Kind of a Pat Young physique but not as big of course.
Doubled his previous numbers in his one year here, and did it for the worst UNCW team in like 20 years.
Of note against P5 programs he had pretty big nights.
vs. Stanford 14 and 4
vs. UNC 16 and 6
He had 22 and 7 vs Gardner-Webb. (They had UVA down by 16 in the first game of the tourney.)
Shoots around 33% from the arc.
Patric Young was also the first comparison I thought of too, the body type and grown man beards are pretty similar. I also found it really impressive that as solid as he looks, he hit 106 out of 125 free throws this year. That's a skill that requires a lot of extra hours in the gym. I think him and Keyontae could interchange pretty well in our small ball system, even have this kid potentially get minutes at the 3, 4, and 5 positions.
You live in Wilmington, start recruiting this kid! lol
Someone that would be hard to push around under the basket.
We could use an enforcer.
Maybe one of these guys has some eligibility.
He has two inches on KJ, but similar games. Both can score from anywhere when needed.
I don't see him as a 5, but maybe for a two minute stretch here and there to change up.
Jeantal Cylla — Florida is not among programs listed that are involved with UNCW transfer. Per Rivals' Corey Evans, that list is Nevada, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Oregon State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, New Mexico State, East Carolina, Middle Tennessee, FGCU and Charlotte.
Well that stinks.
What about the Hauser brothers from Marquette? They are package deal. One has to sit out and one is a grad transfer. Talk about ideal for UF. Two forwards at one time and one plays and the other has 2-3 years left.
I thought I read that neither was a grad transfer. Both would have to seek a waiver. Not to mention we are down to one scholarship now.
neither grad transfers, and are thought to be UVA locks.
Am I riding a unicorn in a cotton candy cloud by still holding out hope for Kerry Blackshear?
Are your fingers sticky?
Of course Duruji doesn't count for this thread but still hoping we get a GT just so this thread can prove some usefulness.
It just got interesting.
