So in the wake of @gatordavisl and @OklahomaGator fantastic contests... I figured this would be an interesting discussion and not one I recall on these boards. At least not recently.

So, the Mount Rushmore of gators basketball.... not necessarily it’s best four players, or even players. Nope... the top 4 people who would be most influential or the faces of the program.

    Who ya got?

    Here is mine:

    Billy Donovan
    Joakim Noah
    Udonis Haslem
    Neal Walk

The last name was toughest. And while I ranked Big Al #1 in the recent contest....I think his quieter demeanor bumps him off this list.

    Let’s hear what ya got.

Hmmmm. Sorry, can’t do four. My Mount Rushmore is one, Donovan. Let’s call it Crazy Horse.

Maybe it’s my view from living outside the state of Florida for so long but I don’t see anyone mentioning Noah, Haslem, and certainly not Walk, as Gators. They’re also largely irrelevant on the national scale.

Donovan is still the only real face of Florida from where I sit. I think Mike White is much closer to being that than any of the players on your list. I could see including the 04s as a collective as one of the influential though.

But this all just one person’s opinion.

Rushmore might be too limiting. Ring of honor, instead?

Like the idea of getting a rep from each era....
    Walk.
    Moten or Ronnie Williams.
    Haslem.
    Noah & Al.

    Donovan = for sure.

    Going off-script here.

Kruger - put UF hoops on the map, showing Donovan that success could be had
    Donovan
Mike Miller - first super recruit of the BD era
    Neal Walk - El

Edit: My demographic is flawed for sure. Can’t see who I would sub, except obviously Lon. With that, I’d put Noah as a galvanizing force behind two championships.

Noah, Horford, Donovan and Foley. Maybe as a 5th, the guy behind the basket who wears the moose hat.

    1. I was only 10000% certain on Donovan so he's in.
    2. Noah stands out the most to me as a player when I think Gator hoops, so he's in. Unlimited heart mixed with talent, and the most outgoing and loving figure off the court arguably in all Gator athletics history outside of Tebow. Also he's the only Gator named 1st team All-American and brought us two national titles. No brainer this one.
    3. Then you have to ask who else shaped Gator hoops. Well, Mike Miller certainly did. That game winner against Butler changed our history as did his commitment. Without him and you might not have a Joakim Noah or any of the greats who have came after. And since he's from South Dakota, it only makes sense to put him on a Mount Rushmore.
    4. Fourth spot is tough. I'll go with Jason Williams because of the star factor. Every single basketball fan over 30 knows who he is, and he's universally respected. He also followed Donovan which sure as hell got the ball rolling. I don't think a guy like him should be left off simply because of weed. Hell, we all know Joakim smoked more weed than Jason did.

    Donovan- no brainer
    Noah- no brainer
    Miller- as above by Cinci
Schintzius- odd choice I know, but he stood out early.

Billy obviously. But in front of Haslam, I would put Dupay or Miller, who would rank as the most important early recruits of Donovan’s tenure. Miller was the biggest, but Dupay came first.

Are you putting together an article covering the contests and results? I think this exercise should be formalized into an article that becomes reference material for future generations of Gators fans! Can culminate the article with the Gator Hoops Rushmore!

Btw, did you quiz Bill Koss on his best 20?
