That’s funny because we thought of Costa Rica for spring break this year but decided on Bimini. Get that boy a sail and mahi on the same day!
For almost guaranteed sails, south Florida and the keys, as well as Isla Mujeres are tough to beat in the coming month or two.

Our travels are budget limited and I haven't figured a way to do Bimini or Turks and Caicos on a budget yet. Miles on SW paid for flights to CR direct from FLL and bought a reward cert for 7 nights at Los Suenos for around $100 per night and that comes with the breakfast buffet. Gives us a few pennies left over for excursions/charter. You renting a place in Bimini? taking a boat across or ???

We went to Playa concha for our honeymoon. Took a charter one day... awful. We caught a fish that looked like a bonito but with teeth. They called it a mackerella.
May is best month for mahi, though you probably won't miss in July.

Figured if I poor mouthed enough some gator guy with a nice boat in need of someone to fill the gas tank, catch the bait, tie the lines, gaff the fish, take the pictures, make the sandwiches, bring the beer, scrub the boat, clean the fish....might invite a guy and his kid to go fishing :) :)

If GC can have a golf outing it would seem we could conjure up a fishing tournament but maybe we are just too spread out.

I always tell my son the best boat is the one that makes it back to the dock safely under it's own power. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Needless to say there are a lot of very nice boats around Sanibel / Naples. Mine isn't one of them but I think he appreciates it nonetheless, except for those rare times when that towboat insurance pays off. :(

Did you stay at the Westin? The best thing about that place was the $20 hour long massages on the beach under the sea grape trees. wife wasn't into it but I took full advantage of that

Mine usually makes it there and back!
But it's old now... and we recently made the decision that it has made its last crossing to Bimini. :(

This trip is a splurge for us. Flying Silver Air over and back and staying at the Hilton World Resort. No firm plans on fishing/diving just yet. My oldest isnt really into fishing from a boat but is certified and wants to do a wreck dive. Youngest loves to fish period so we will have to find some middle ground somewhere or maybe just send the wife and youngest off hunting bonefish while we dive.

Grand Cayman is our dive favorite. Can do lots of good shore dives there for the cost of the tank

We stayed there as well but in 2010 it was taken over by Westin.

Great property. Very friendly staff. Biggest suite we've ever had for an all inclusive resort. Did you ever do any of the day tours?

I remember one in particular. The tour guide said were about to cross the Oh My God bridge and the entire tour bus gasped when we got a look at the bridge.

    We did.
We went on a zip line and white water tubing trip. It was in the mountains a couple hours away. The tubing was absoltuely nuts.

    Sounds familiar.

Did it involve wearing rubber diapers while being propelled by natural springs on a concrete tunnel?

Lots of folks had strawberries and some had a few good gashes.

After my first run my thoughts were this wouldn't be approved by Disney.

No concrete tunnel. Just a rubber inner tube, helmet and a roughy river.
    Oh... and lots of rocks!

The switch suddenly turned on for my 8-year-old son, and he now cant get enough fishing in.
We have been catching a ton of peacock bass and largemouth.
I recently took him on the ocean --- started easy with a few vermillion snapper.

Same story on west coast. ACOE saved that precious sugarcane though. God I wish the chump would get pissed at big sugar about something. Maybe we could get one of the Fanjul brothers to take a dump in the pool at Marlago. End the damn sugar subsidies and shut those guys down. Ranchers from Orlando south are the other major contributors. Cattle and subsidized sugar kill our coasts and our gubmnt helps them do it.

Costa Rican yellowfin. No sails or marlin, lot of small mahi. Los Suenos had a tournament and that marina has the most impressive set of sportfishing boats I have ever seen. Lot of 60 foot plus Viking in there
