absolutely right. Some fans were livid when we went to the NIT after our entire NC team (top 6 players) was gutted. I'm sure there are a lot of those same fans that are calling for White's head now - because they're complainers, and that's what complainers do. Very few of those people that complain nonstop have ever accomplished anything great in their own lives, so they project - and demand perfection in others.

I guess I find it ironic that your gripe was that I keep telling you to wait, yet here... “wait til the end of the season”.

Irony aside- waiting til the end of the year before making an assessment seems like a great idea!

Hopefully, it all works out and the team finishes strong and shuts me up about Coach White's seat getting warm. lol

I’m basing my opinion of getting rid of White on his previous seasons and this one. I know what his offense is gonna do. It is you that keeps saying just wait till next season. Take away the first 3 games and see where the offense ranks.

Here is the thing with White - he is a good guy and runs a clean program. But... anybody who does not see major red flags is blind.
    - Lack of player development. Indeed, it is common to see regression.
    - Lack of offensive identity.
    - A timidity of play on offense and defense, especially at crunch time.
    - Lapses and schemes that do not cover weaknesses on O and D

I worry that MW is a stubborn, inflexible "my way or the highway" guy. Players must adapt to him and when injuries hit he has little flexibility (btw - bad luck over multiple years is an excuse). Every year over the last 4 years it seems that the team does not play with much joy and they are not fun to watch (and I enjoy great defense). I was dreamily hopeful his first few years but the slide and disfunction can't be denied to my eyes.

Here is where I sit: if MW says "we are not succeeding at the level we need AND I NEED to change", I put him at a 3. I WANT the guy to succeed, he is young, and he is smart. But if he is gonna keep pounding a square peg into a round hole and producing teams that, to me, do not achieve to the talent level we have, I'm a 1. Mike needs to agree to grow and change, or UF needs a change at HC over the next 2 years.

I think some meaningful number of fans were starting to get a bit frustrated the 4th and 5th of Donovan’s early NCAA exits. Losing to Manhattan in the 1st round tends to do that!

We had some strong regular seasons in that era, despite the tournament struggles. The frustration was that we were getting sweet 16 seeds, yet got bounced early year after year. Those teams developed a reputation for being soft. I don’t know if that was fully earned because I thought a guy like Matt Walsh was pretty scrappy. The reality was more that those teams were too reliant on the 3, they needed 1 or two more physical/athletic players (particularly a big) to provide better balance. David Lee was just 1 guy (and honestly Donovan probably under utilized him). The teams Donovan made deep runs with had both athleticism and skill.

Ok. But the fact remains... despite your contention otherwise, we have indeed been playing faster. Significantly. Our tempo ranking is nearly 200 places higher.
Now if you want to project that won’t hold up, or start taking games out the equation... ok.

You think we are playing significantly faster in these last five games? I’m not seeing it.

Mike White needs an upgrade in Assistant Coaches IMO. Donovan brought in Shyatt and suddenly we were a better defensive team and Donovan was a better coach. White needs an offense specialist. He definitely has to raise his game soon or he will be looking for something else probably not after this season but maybe next year if it’s status quo.

Who is better because of White? The lack of player development and the roster composition are huge issues that I can’t ignore.

I'd put myself at a 2.4. SeaBud says it best for me and makes many good suggestions that need attention. I look at at it as pros and cons.

Pros - If we got everyone back next year (unrealistic) and CMW changed the line up to look like this we might have something. I problem is that CMW seems set with Mann and Locke where they are. The potential is there but my hope is waning.
    PG - Mann/Appleby
    SG - Lewis/Locke*
    SF - Johnson/Reeves**
    PF - Duruji/Johnson
    C - Castleton/Payne
*I know CMW likes defense so he keeps Locke starting at the 2 but I see Noah as a better 6 man player later in the half if he starts on the bench. Rest those legs and when we need someone to shoot 3s, he would be best coming in. Lewis can start and go full out as usual until he needs to come out.
** I'm a firm believer Johnson's best spot for college or beyond will be at the 3. Take Tennessee from last year with the Admiral. Johnson can shoot from outside, drive against most anyone, can out jump most anyone, and gives us more rebound help from the 3. Reeves is an unknown but should be a good fit.

Cons - For years now any teams we put on the court only play about 15 minutes of good basketball. That's on CMW. CBD also had teams that struggled with consistency but Billy made corrections to work us out of those lulls. Any corrections CMW makes just confuses the lineups even more. Same thing with foul trouble. If we have a starter with fouls and have to sit that usually starts us down the wrong path.

I'm tired of accepting excuses but can still imagine the potential that is ahead of us. Unfortunately for Mike White the wait 'til next year is a setting sun.

If the standard is we can’t fire a coach because some coach out there turned it around after doing poorly then you’ll never fire a coach.

The reality is nearly all coaches like that never get better.

I think we’ve pulled it back a bit the last couple... being down two starters, but I think we are consistently making an effort to play faster. Last year we got caught in so many late clock possessions. I really haven’t seen a lot of that this season. . . sans the uk game. Have you?
We have had more transition offense and more early clock offense.
There is no way we would be ranked 56 in tempo if half our games (last 5) matched the speed of one ranked 236.

Seriously, comparing anyone to Donovan sets the bar for failure. Who can live up to that expectations?

Agreed. That being said, White isnt as good as Lon K in my opinion and I was not the biggest unibrow fan.

I am a big Lon Kruger fam and think he is a very good coach. He is currently a better coach than White.
But White is a better coach for Florida. Lon didn’t have the chops to go out and recruit basketball in Florida. He openly lamented the interest and commitment to the sport.

Lon was solid game day coach in my opinion. Defenses were solid for sure at every place he went and they really were aggressive. That being said he didn’t go after the recruits like he should have. Agree with the assessment but I am not sure Mike will ever be as good as Lon.
