I don’t doubt that some of the heavyweight schools may still come after him, so if he keeps winning, he will keep getting raises.

His deposits just went from $100k to $168k, twice a month. Approximately speaking of course. Congrat’s to him. Well earned.

I would say that this group of fans want the coach to "show them" and they will respond. Todd did and they did. Contrast that with Arkansas fans.

Do these contracts have a 401k match?

Actually, people working in educational institutions (K-University) have a somewhat similar program called 403b. I don't really know to what extent a coach's salary comes from "outside" sources, such as pay for appearing on pre- and post-game shows from Learfield. But, as a UF employee I am part of the Optional Retirement Program (an alternative to the State Retirement System), and can choose to contribute to a couple of other retirement programs with state contributions and/or tax advantages.

When I started at UF everybody entered the State pension system that took ten years to get vested. Kind of a rip-off if you are denied tenure after five or six years because you then got nothing. At some point we were offered the opportunity to self direct our retirement and were offered a lump sum to buy out our stake in the pension system. The amount offered was a total joke so I stayed in the State pension plan.

But I had to retire after 30 years in and 5 years in DROP and really wasn't ready to do that. After a year off I came back part time for a few years because I missed working with students.

I still get offers to come back and teach but what they offer isn't enough to disrupt my current life.

When I came here in 85 they were actually discouraging enrollment in the State Retirement System in favor of ORP. Since that's what we had in Ohio where I was previously, it was an easy transfer of my retirement account. A few years ago the State realized that with everyone shifting to ORP there wasn't going to be enough to fund the State System in a few years. They offered everyone a deal to move back into the State System, but it wasn't worth it financially to me.
And, I don't know anyone in DROP who was actually ready to retire when their deadline came up.
