Hook ‘em Horns can’t be real happy with Tommy Herman tonight. This was supposed to be their year, 6-5 on the season now. He’s 23-15 in year 3. Of course they gave him the ridiculous proverbial contract extension and raise after year 2. Something about him has always soured me. Maybe it’s because he’s from Ohio..

He seemed like the right fit, with the right QB, but when you have no D it matters little even in the Big 12

6-5 used to get you fired at Texas. Now they seem satisfied with 6-5 and 23-15 over three years. 16-10 in conference over that 3 year period. Rhule’s rebuild of Baylor has been impressive. Underrated HC

There may be something to this. Some say the the Longhorn administration is not really that committed to winning in big time football. The boosters may feel very differently. We'll see how it plays out I guess.

Texas had never consistently been elite at football, I don’t think they’ve even consistently been good. Auburn, a school which shares a state that doesn’t have the resources or population of Texas, is consistently much better

Yet right now, Texas is ranked #7 in 24/7's composite recruiting rankings: 2020 Football Team Rankings
while Baylor is ranked #64. There ain't no accountin for taste.

OK, would you rather spend 4 years in Austin or Waco? That’s accounting for taste my friend

I checked, it looks like they won a national title in 1963 and 1969, then shared a national title in 1970 before winning with Young in 2005. I did not say they have never been good, just not consistently. They have the resources, but, like this year, just cannot put it together.

    They have been.
    Go look at 01-09.
10 plus won games every season, won more than 11 games I think six of those

Agree. It’s not that Texas hasn’t had some success- they certainly have at times. It’s that nobody does less with more than Texas. They have every advantage- more money than anyone else, massive recruiting base within a 4 hour drive in any direction, a great city, their own TV network, and it’s right behind UF in academics. They play in a joke of a conference with only one consistently good opponent in Oklahoma. The rest of the Big 12 is their b—-h politically. It’s why UT will go independent and do some sort of Notre Dame-style partnership with the PAC 12 during the next round of realignment- they want no part of the Big 10-11-14 or the SEC. They love playing almost every game within the state of Texas. On paper, they should be a playoff team every year. Yet they aren’t.

Certainly goes to show that all the 5 stars and all the money and all the advantages don’t mean a thing if you can’t get the right guy at HBC. Recruiting matters. Coaching matters more.
