That’s just it, history and rivalries are only part of the equation. Some of the matchups won’t make sense, others are no brainers. Can’t stack some teams with 3 heavyweights and others with just 1 or even none. I think they’ll do some sort 2/1 deal with the upper half teams, 2 upper half and 1 lower half. SI has us in the upper half, not sure how. :D

That upper/lower split was based on revenue generation.

Yeah because that is a fantastic way to determine matchups. A team that pretty much gets shut out against Oregon state should not be in the upper tier.

Can it even be considered a true football season without the annual Red River Rivalry, the WLOCP, the Egg bowl, the Iron bowl, etc? The new SEC has to find a way to keep these matchups on the calendar every year.

The more quality games on the schedule the better. Half the games are a joke as it is. I’d love it if we played ranked teams every week.

It changes as to who the good teams are. It’ll be a scheduling mess and controversial every other year.

Why not? with a 3/6 system everyone is going to be playing everyone else a lot more anyway so why not leave Texas,A&M,Oklahoma and Mizzy locked in with each other? they aren't anyone else's rivals, I guess you could toss Arkansas in with a few of them for variety.

They'll probably give Bama Vandy, Missouri & Auburn! Who knows how it'll work out, but I doubt anybody will be happy. Personally, I hate the whole idea of Texas & Oklahoma in a 16-team SEC, but it's all about $$$$ so what any of us thinks doesn't really matter.

IMO, the conference ended its existence when Sewanee left.

So go pods. They are over complicating it and will create major competitive issues. 4 pods and a 4 team SEC playoff

So UF’s permanent opponents will be UGA, Chiefs, and Bills. Rotation will be @ Bama, @ L$U, @ TAM, @OU, UT, Vandy. Also in the rules will be that every time UGA has Bama, TAM,or L$U scheduled, some “special” event will happen causing the schedule to be changed.

The only issue with 4 school pods based on keeping traditions alive would have us in the same pod as Georgia, Alabama and Auburn:
UF vs UGa- WLOCP must be kept annual.
Bama vs Aub- Iron Bowl every year is a must.
Aub vs UGa- oldest rivalry in SEC (127 games).

That is a lot of recent SEC and National Championships in one pod. Even though two of us are down right now, I still don't see Saban and the rulers of the SEC (Bama) agreeing to this alignment.

Maybe they will come up with a hybrid approach that could have pods of 4 with more balance plus one to two non-rotating rivalry matchups outside of your pod?
That way, we could still get Georgia every year without having to add the two Alabama schools because of the Georgia-Auburn and Bama-Aub ties.

It's almoset certainly going to be 1 16-team division with 9 games vs conference, and 3 set opponents. Will be interested to see if we get to keep UGA, UT, and LSU as our set 3.

It will be VERY important to keep the streak alive never let a Manning beat the Gators!

Those are quality games to watch for certain but a tougher schedule than most of our competitors would have. They should have two divisions and just add an sec game or two and keep the sec championship. This is going backwards as far as legit championships. Eliminate the sec championship if that’s how it’s going to be

I thought if they were going to do pods it would be:
UF, UGAG, S. Carolina and Vandy

Bama, Aub, Miss and Miss St.

    LSU, Tx, Arky, and aTm

    Okie, Missouri, KY and Tn.

Could switch that last one around a bit.

Be careful what you wish for. Gator Country might do the same and only consider posters that joined in 2007 as Real Posters and any more current posters as Fake Posters. Some say they already have.
Edit for any mods: This is sarcasm and only intended to be. Nothing else. I'll climb back in my hole now.

I’m afraid Eli beat us 20-17 in 2003 At Oxford. I was at that one. Exercise in futility.

    Slight correction...
Eli beat us in Oxford in 2002 though perhaps its more accurate to say Rexy Grossman beat us- throwing 4 picks including a pick 6.
    The score was 17-14.

Eli also beat us in 2003 in Gainesville 20-17.
That one featured one of the strangest drives of all time. We had 2 plays of over 45 yards in one drive and didn't score a single point. (Missed FG.)
Never a dull moment with Zook as our head coach.

Anyway- looking forward to reversing the trend vs. the Mannings.
