Personally, I don't get the religious angle to any criticisms here, as opposed to conceivably (but I'm not certain) seeing fault in camp planners/administrators ......

But when we saw the Republican presidential candidate repeatedly tell vile (and racist) lies about Biden and FEMA after the North Carolina disaster it certainly lowered the bar and opened the door for this. Should we honestly have expected anything different? We certainly saw a lot of people with absolutely no opposition to that vile conduct.

I am ashamed that some of you root for the same team I do. I am also glad that I don not know some of you personally. There are posts in this thread from both sides that are nothing short of despicable.. and there are no excuses good enough to make them ok
20 lives were likely lost in a tragedy. Families forever scared. Friends disappeared. In a matter of minutes so many lives changed for the worst. My heart hurts for long them.

Because this tragedy may have been preventable given better political behavior (eg weather office staffing, evacuation orders, etc)

So each of these posts reference ugly generalizations and childish name calling only to justify it and double down reasoning to join in and do the same....

Where did I call anyone childish names? I’m was responding to a post claiming that it’s not fair to blame the Christian group that runs this death camp because minorities don’t ever get blamed for doing bad stuff… it’s was a seriously bad take….

Don’t get the religious criticism either. And I am no fan of religion as a whole.

Management certainly seems poor to abominable.

Also doubt the DOGE connection. I do indeed believe we will see that once that is set in. I imagine the people left behind are doing heroic stuff while they can muster the strength.

Seems like piss poor planning met a max worst case scenario and we have the predictable catastrophe.

I do believe it was preventable but I don’t see the political points.

It is a misguided view of prayer by many Christians. Jesus told is how to pray and frankly, He never mentioned praying for anything other than God's will and our basic needs (food, forgiveness, avoidance of wrong doing). Your position is one that I myself can not reconcile outside of the fact that God is sovereign and our prayers arent intended to change his mind.

Not sure if that helps, but that is where I land.

Dude. Your comments are bordering on hateful.
You should probably bow out. Again, you would never have the balls to say this about any other group, not sure why you feel empowered to do it here.

This thread is exactly why real names should be attached to posts. Anonymously posting disgusting stuff sure makes some people brave.

You are misrepresenting my post. I said you would never say that if the minority ran that camp and built those cabins...You eould never blame the entire group, like you are Christians.

....or if it was an LGBTQ camp I doubt you would blame all LQBTQ folks.

I never said "minorities never get blamed for doing any bad stuff". You are deflecting the fact that you are bring called out, by people for YOUR silly intolerant and borderline hateful take.

Your being a hypocrite and taking a shot at the one group that you THiNK you can get away with it with, but would never dream of demonizing another whole group while they are enduring an unspeakable tragedy.

But if keyboard bravado is the flex you choose then keep typing. It reveals a lot about you

Seems like you are reading something into that.... Here is my first sentence...

"Absolutely disgusting display by the Christians running this camp. "

Well I do suspect WDG is playing Bad Guy here, because if the camp was indeed run by Undesirables then The Swarm would be doing the exact same thing.

If you had a cabin full of life jackets and the chance to put one on before getting swept away, would it increase your odds of survival significantly? Or are there so many tree limbs and junk and stuff in the current that you'd get taken out anyway? Where those cabins were built shouldn't have been allowed.

There is a thread on the texags site, a number of people had kids there or knew folks there. One child among them is still missing. This is the last page but amazing first hand accounts of close calls (one guy had a daughter floating up to the roof of her cabin), heroes, and still the poor family waiting for word.

I also don’t see the Christian angle UNLESS being a religious group somehow exempted them from building codes or exempted them from some sort of regulations. Could just as easily be some “good ‘ole boy” permit standards as anything to do with religion.

Bottom line though is the people in charge at all levels failed those kids catastrophically. Surely they should have had some idea they needed to evacuate. Someone has to be in charge.

A flood watch was issued around noon the previous day. A flash flood warning went out at midnight, with a second “serious” flood warning at 4AM, The water didn’t really start to rise until about 5AM, hit “major flood” level at 6AM, and peaked at 7AM…. Their Christian leaders had plenty of warning, 18 hours…. It was complete arrogance and stupidity to house kids in high risk flood zones in the first place, and should be criminal to not have system in place to alert the staff of a “serious” flash flood warnings, even it’s the middle of the night, when they choose to build that way. I’m sorry if my opinion hurts Christian’s feelings.

In Texas region prone to catastrophic floods, questions grow about lack of warning
