What gets me is that these men fought against the USA. They raised their flag and arms against the US flag and the US army. They were secessionists and traitors. Yet these are the same people who point their finger and scream "un-American" and "You Hate the USA" at anyone who dares take a stance against any point of view or social issue that they disagree with. Hypocrites!!!!!

That's Tennessee for you. The Butler Act of 1925, which outlawed the public-school teaching of evolution in Tennessee (leading to the famous Scopes Trial), remained on the books till the late 1960s. Till then you could still get thrown in jail in Tennessee for teaching the theory of evolution.

Never heard of the Nathan guy and don’t give rats tail if tennessee has a statue of him.

They can erect a 100 statues of Farrakhan too.

    I don’t care.

    I live in Florida.

Worst of all, Tennessee has let country music get slaughtered in Nashville. They're rapping now at the Grand Ole Opry. What conservatism! That is one two-faced state.

One way to look at it.

Another way is that is happening in the USA.

Presumably, then, you will limit your comments in the future to issues that affect Florida? Because after learning that a state is having a day to honor this guy, you just can’t bring yourself to have an opinion?

Spot on. Unless it directly impacts only Florida, we should see nothing from this poster.

Well, I think there is a 3rd option, which is Tennessee legislators need to get off their behinds and change an old outdated law. I’m a conservative, and I can acknowledge that.

Or # 3 I don't give a rip what you think. Passing judgement on people that you know nothing about amounts to a warm bucket of spit. Before you condem someone first learn a little about them.

Abolish the Loyal League and the Ku Klux Klan; let us come together and stand together.

    Nathan Bedford Forrest

We have but one flag, one country; let us stand together. We may differ in color, but not in sentiment.

    Nathan Bedford Forrest

I went into the army worth a million and a half dollars, and came out a beggar.

    Nathan Bedford Forrest

Why do you want to disparage this great man?

Tennessee needs to change the law, it shouldn't be that hard.

Honestly, I am not disparaging the man. I haven’t done the research, so I’m going off of varying political factions and their narratives about the man. However, it is kind of the same principle behind why we shouldn’t fly the confederate flag. Even if it is not a racist symbol to you, Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers. We don’t need to publicly honor things that cause division among men. That is not loving your fellow man.

Are you the morality police? Are you so inculcated in the morality of the mid 19th century that you can judge the character based on the morals at his time?
